Position Summary & CoreResponsibilities:
The Dean's OfficeFinance Team Lead Financial Manager plays a crucial role in managing financialprocesses, data analysis, and reporting within the School of Medicine (SOM). This position serves as anintegral member of the Office of Finance team, and will act as a resource andmentor for the Financial Analysts on the team.The Team Lead Financial Manager collaborateswith various units, oversees budgeting, and ensures efficient commitmentmanagement and budget to actual analysis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented,proficient in data analysis, and capable of making proactive and informeddecisions based on data-driven insights.
CoreResponsibilities:
1. Budget & SpendMonitoring, Financial Analysis, and Reporting (50%):
  • Developbudget allocations for E&G and other fund sources within the SOM.
  • Reviewspending patterns and identify significant variances.
  • Preparereports on revenue and expenditure data for management.
  • Incorporateperformance and staffing metrics into financial analyses.
  • Evaluateexpenditures based on programmatic needs.
  • Collaboratewith Dean's Office Finance team on student funding workflows and ensureaccurate tracking of student-related financial transactions.
  • Cross-trainon all finance functions throughout the Dean's Office Finance Team
2. Database Management andWorkflow Tracking within Anaplan (30%):
  • UtilizeAnaplan to build and track workflows related to commitments, budgeting,and budget to actual reporting.
  • Maintainaccurate records of commitments and financial transactions.
  • Collaboratewith stakeholders to ensure data integrity and efficient processes.
3. Internal Audit TestingManager (10%):
  • Overseeinternal audit testing activities for financial processes.
  • Ensurecompliance with internal controls and policies for Procurement Cards,Index Reconciliation and Records management.
  • Conductrisk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaboratewith auditors and address findings.
4. ARMICS Coordinator forDean's Office (5%):
  • CoordinateARMICS (Annual Risk Management and Internal Control Self-Assessment)activities for the Dean's office.
  • UpdateARMICS process control assessments annually or as staff changes occur.
  • Manageannual internal audit testing and compliance efforts.
5. Facilities ProjectAccounting/Reporting (5%):
  • MonitorSOM facilities project allocations and expenses
  • Produceregular reports on project status and financial requirements.
TeamLeadership
  • Serveas a resource and mentor to the team, providing guidance and support toenhance skills and career growth
  • Provideback-up support to the Director of Resources & Budget Management whenneeded
  • Fostera collaborative and positive work environment

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor'sdegree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business administration, datascience).
  • Progressiveprofessional experience in budgeting, financial planning and analysis
  • Strongattention to detail and ability to manage complex financial processes.
  • Excellentcommunication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.Must be pro-active in asking questionsand seeking guidance when needed.
  • Must be precise, thorough, and reliable and perform dailyactivities with minimal supervision.
  • Abilityto multitask, managing time and competing priorities in a dynamicenvironment
  • Excellentanalytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Abilityto establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficiencyin data analysis tools (e.g., Anaplan, Excel, SQL).
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA orMaster's degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business administration,data science)
  • 5-7 Years' experience in budgeting,financial planning, and analysis
  • Strong leadership & teammanagement abilities
  • Experience with Anaplan or similarFP&A Software
