Position Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Coding Manager, the Charge Entry Specialist position performs high volume, fast paced entry of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4) codes, International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) quality improvement measures, to facilitate accurate and timely billing, as well as quality reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Receives and prepares patient data, including but not limited to patient charges utilizing CPT-4 and ICD-10-CM codes and MIPS measures for computer entry by reviewing the data for deficiencies, resolving discrepancies and using standard procedures.
• Keys patient charge data received into billing software to facilitate billing.
• Keys MIPS quality improvement measures into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to facilitate quality reporting to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
• Reconciles patient charges and MIPS data keyed, to ensure accuracy of data entered and identify missing services and outstanding charges.
• Pulls over the patient charge data entered in the appropriate billing software to facilitate billing.
• Keys patient dispositions into the EMR to facilitate patient tracking and/or billing.
• Creates computer folders, sub-folders, directories and sub-directories to store files, ensuring data is recoverable and retrievable.
• Purges computer folders, sub-folders, directories and sub-directories at specified intervals.
• Generates weekly/monthly reports as assigned by Medical Coding Supervisor or designee.
• Keeps Medical Coding Supervisor apprised of matters regarding patient charge entries and MIPS entries (via Insync Software) including but not limited to missing charges, delays in receiving patient charge data, or necessary process changes.
• Meets defined productivity, compliance and quality requirements.
• Maintains a level of computer literacy (i.e. software, applications and hardware), consistent with the expectations of the position.
• Assists management with special projects and performs other duties, as may be required to support the organization’s Medical Coding program and Compliance program.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Current State of Florida driver’s license with driving record acceptable to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida
• Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), Level 2 Background Screen with status eligible required

Education/Experience:

• A combination of education and experience that would provide required skills and knowledge for successful job performance would be considered.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• One (1) to two (2) years data entry – Required
• Medical data entry experience – Preferred

Knowledge/Requirements/Skills:

• Proficient in 10-key data entry and typing
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, and team oriented
• Productivity level of at least 250 entries per day
• Effective communication skills both written and verbal
• Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask
• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding (CPT-4, ICD-10-CM and MIPS) – helpful
