General Summary

Supervises the overall employees, production, safety, and maintenance activities of the aggregate operations at the plant.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)

  • Exercises judgment as to trends and makes decisions based on various projections.
  • Responsible for ensuring that schedules are met, and customer needs are responded to in a timely manner. Sets up production schedules and examines various cost factors as overtime, repair, and maintenance, etc.
  • Has the latitude to change operations to meet goals. Uses a high level of judgment and direction.
  • Helps formulate overall plant operating policies and procedures. Interprets and executes company directives and policies and initiates programs in pursuit of company objectives.
  • Authorizes the hiring, termination, promotion, or transfer of employees by considering subordinate recommendations.
  • Plans and develops procedures, specifications, and cost estimates; analyzes and interprets operations, production, and equipment, maintains operating costs at lowest possible level. Develops and monitors procedures and programs to increase product, improve working conditions and decrease operating costs to lowest possible level.
  • Exercises close attention over employer-employee relations, employee morale and safety.
  • Establish and lead site safety culture.
  • Assure full environmental permit compliance.
  • Position will require hands on approach to maintenance and production as manpower warrants.
  • Confers with Area Manager on operational needs, plant progress and formulation of plans and objectives.
  • Has financial responsibility for the operation.

Educational Skills and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Successful completion of high school or GED certificate is required.
  • Associate Degree in Leadership, Supervision, Engineering or Construction related field preferred.
  • 10-15 years of previous experience in aggregates/mining operations is required.
  • 5-10 years of supervisory skills are required.
  • 3-5 years of plant maintenance required.
  • Working knowledge of MSHA required.
  • Basic computer skills required. Requires knowledge of hand tools, mechanical aptitude, and operation of heavy equipment.
  • Must use all required personal protective equipment as needed. Must exercise great care in traffic and on-site movements of equipment/vehicles. Must demonstrate commitment to safety of all persons and property by abiding by all safety rules and regulations as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate and to establish and maintain effective and compatible working relationships with supervisor and co-workers. Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions to read, understand and obey all safety rules and regulations, equipment operating instructions and danger notices.
  • Must be meeting expectations in current job.
