Capitol Federal Savings Bank is Hiring an Account and Collections Specialist Near Topeka, KS

Job DescriptionRoleResponsible for initiating retail collection actions on past due items and negative accounts. Works with third party collections providers such as attorney’s and Chexsystems. Provides support to the Transaction Account Services department with tasks including, but not limited to, general ledger reconciliation, debit card and credit card portfolio maintenance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Counsels existing customers regarding account status and terms of accounts. Shall possess extensive knowledge of funds availability, overdraft protection, extended overdraft protection, extended overdraft status and the deposit collections process. Maintains favorable customer relations through proper handling of customer inquiries, exercise discretionary judgment and initiative regarding account related problems and procedures within the limits of corporate policies, procedures and security. Negotiates deposit account repayment agreements. Consults management, when necessary, to resolve complex customer situations
  • Prepares collection related correspondence and agreements. Processes daily reports and performs collections maintenance. Ensures all reporting is completed accurately and in a timely fashion. Performs proper recording and filing of supporting documentation.
  • Ensures compliance with Fair Debt Collection regulations, the Bank’s overdraft policy, and all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicates directly with collection attorneys for settlement, remittance, and billing. Represents Bank as needed for court appearances to satisfy legal pursuit of balances due.
  • Gathers necessary data to compile monthly metrics in relation to deposit collections.
  • Completes daily bank reports for reconciliation, reviewing department general ledger entries to ensure compliance with timeframes for completion and charge off.
  • Understanding of card related functions to support debit and credit card portfolio maintenance, customer inquiries and other associated duties.
  • Assists in researching return deposits and processes chargebacks against accounts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Must comply with current applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures.
ExperienceA minimum of one year up to three years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education/Certifications/LicensesA high school degree or equivalent.
Skills
  • Ability to use database, spreadsheet and word processing software suites to record and maintain records, with customer contact as necessary via verbal and written correspondence. Ability to learn and retain knowledge of Fair Debt Collection regulations. Attention to detail and the ability to analyze customer issues, answer questions, suggest solutions, and provide counsel.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
