This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in office at any one of the following office locations: Hartford, CT or Chicago, IL.

CapSpecialty is seeking an Underwriter on our Management Liability - Directors & Officers team to ensure profitable results and premium growth by adhering to underwriting guidelines. Ensure consistency and accuracy in all work produced. Develop and manage broker relationships while marketing CapSpecialty and its products as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Underwrite and service new and existing accounts within underwriting authority, responding to broker, insured and management inquiries.
• Create and maintain underwriting profits and ensure performance and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
• Establish and maintain broker relationships through exceptional customer service.
• Keep abreast of market intelligence and trends in the marketplace. Participate in marketing initiatives as needed.
• Assist in research projects regarding classes of business, emerging technologies and unique risks and exposures as needed.
• Evaluate and test system changes as required.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed that pertains to the specific line of business.

Core Competencies

• General familiarity with the financial markets and financial analysis.
• Basic understanding of financial evaluation tools.
• Effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact well with external and internal resources at all levels.
• Ability to develop familiarity with a wide variety of businesses and organizations, the services they provide, as well as the regulatory, legislative, legal and economic factors that affect them.
• Must be skilled in using personal computers, the internet and multiple software programs.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent.
• 2-4 years professional liability underwriting experience.
• Completion of, or continuing work towards, Certification in RPLU, CIC, CPCU, or other approved programs preferred.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Business travel may be required.
• May be required to lift up to 15 lbs at times.
