Position: Resident Assistant

Supervisor: Residential Complex Coordinator

LocationofPosition: Campus Corner Apartments at Green River College

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Student

Dates of Employment: August 29th, 2024, and ends June 18th, 2025

Summary:

The Resident Assistant (R.A.) is student leader position committed to building a positive living environment in Student Housing that supports networking, community, and individual student personal and academic growth. The successful candidates will be supported in playing a major role in the lives of the residents through meaningful personal interactions, the implementation of programs, policies, and services at Green River College Student Housing. The ideal Resident Assistant must be able to work successfully on a team as needed, be self-motivated to work independently as needed, and must be flexible in living and working in a constantly changing and unpredictable environment.

The RA position is a nine (9) month commitment. The RA role is considered an essential position and may be required to support essential operations during emergencies, inclement weather, etc. at the direction of the professional staff.

Essential Duties:

Community and Interpersonal Development 

  • Plan, promote, and complete resident events or programs as designated
  • Assist in the mediation of roommate and other interpersonal conflicts.
  • Assist with resident issue and contact professional staff as needed
  • Assist and support residents in the completion of roommate agreements.
  • Build and maintain community by establishing strong rapport and sense of respect with residents in your assigned buildings and the entire population of student housing
  • Identify and provide appropriate personal or academic referral to assist residents in needed.
  • Be present and available within community/
  • Partner with assigned campus offices to provide engagement and support to students while on campus. 
  • Engage in a 1:1 manner with residents to support their experience. 
  • Serve as the first line of engagement to any student or community issue and contact 
  • Host 3 Unit Meetings each Quarter

Community Standards & Policy Enforcement 

  • Serve a night of “duty” or “on-call” on a rotating basis
  • Serve a night of “back-up duty” or “back-up on-call” on a rotating basis
  • Serve a long weekend of “duty” or “on-call” on a rotating basis
  • Serve a long weekend of “back-up duty” or “back-up on-call” on a rotating basis
  • Complete roves around the student housing site with Campus Safety during duty shift
  • Conduct a series of closing responsibilities when you shut down and secure the Townsend Center
  • Document any incidents that occur during duty shifts. Incident Reports should be submitted before the start of the next business day
  • Assist and support with crisis incidents.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all position responsbilities.
  • Adhere to all College policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Respond to and report all violations of college policies.

Administrative 

  • Responsible for completing requested written reports (duty log entries, room condition reports, incident reports, etc.)
  • Report all maintenance and cleaning requests via Property Boss
  • Distribute informational material as needed to residents
  • Log and organize student mail and packages as a primary function of office shifts
  • Answer phones, respond to email, and check messages in Microsoft Teams frequently
  • Manage keys and complete room checks for students moving in and out 
  • Support quarter census procedure
  • Assisting with other operational needs such as room turns, inspections, packing, cleaning, etc., as directed by professional staff. 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Current student at Green River College. 
  • Be registered for 10 credit hours at GRC for all three quarters for 2024-2025.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50
  • Commitment to inclusivity, self-reliance, initiative, responsibility, and integrity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work on a team
  • The ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Time Commitment:

  • Participates in all trainings, staff meetings, openings and closings during the year
  • Helps with major Student Housing events such as Welcome Events, Residential Orientation, Health & Safety Inspections, and Resident Appreciation Week
  • Serves in a regular duty rotation (including Winter, Thanksgiving, and Spring Break)
  • Has limited opportunity for additional employment on or off campus

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Compensation 

This position will receive a housing credit for the standard housing fee and paid 10 hours each week at a rate of $17.09 per hour. Applicants are encouraged to meet with a member of financial aid to determine the impact, if any, on their financial aid award. Position not eligible for benefits.
