About CarbonDrop

CarbonDrop is on a mission to tackle climate change at a truly impactful scale, with a goal to capture gigatonnes of CO2 per year at a cost of $1-5/tonne -- our novel approach takes advantage of photosynthesis to enhance carbon capture and sequester CO2 over geologically-relevant timescales. CarbonDrop aims to capture enough CO2 to significantly offset the world’s current emissions and set our planet on a sustainable path without compromising food sources or world economic development.

What You’ll Do

• Assess and validate new analytical methods in the lab prior to implementation
• Plan the practical (i.e. protocol) and statistical (e.g. DOE) elements of experiments
• Perform plate-based enzyme assays (colorimetry, fluorimetry, fluorescence polarization, luminescence)
• Perform chemical extractions from plant tissue and analyze the resulting extracts using diverse chemical techniques
• Design and implement data analysis frameworks tailored for small to medium-scale datasets
• Communicate the results of your research and experiments to the Director of Scientific Research, other Scientists, and the broader CarbonDrop team
• Assist in the establishment and build out of our laboratory environment for analyzing biological samples at increasing scale and complexity
• Document hardware design, experimental details and findings
• Work as a team performing research projects collaboratively and maintaining research equipment and reagent inventory

Who You Are

• Entrepreneurial and innovative mindset with a demonstrated history of developing or implementing new ideas/technologies within a company or academic lab environment
• Excited by the prospect of being handed responsibility very quickly, being driven by an environment of constant growth and by solving hard problems creatively and collaboratively
• Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Chemistry, with a preference for candidates with experience working with algae or plants
• A track record of conducting results-driven research
• Experience in collaborative interactions and completing projects with multiple participants
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
• Strong communicator, both verbally and written
• Quick to assimilate new ideas with the ability to deliver exciting presentations

Bonus If You

• Have experience with LC-MS or other high performance separation and detection technologies
• Have experience characterizing and/or quantifying polymeric materials

Compensation

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with research experience, academic credentials, relevant qualifications and other job-related skills. The salary range for this position is $75k - 85k and also includes equity in an exciting, early-stage startup in addition to the benefits listed below.
