Medical Records Specialist – General & Specialty Cardiology

The Organization

Since its creation, Cardiac Study Center (CSC) has contracted with Pulse Heart Institute for outpatient cardiology and billing services. CSC is a proud partner of Pulse and has provided outpatient cardiology services in the Puget Sound Region for over 50 years. CSC partnered with MultiCare Health System to create Pulse Heart Institute in 2016 to work toward improving the health of cardiac patients.

Pulse offers a variety of career opportunities throughout our clinic locations. If you’re interested, we may have positions open in our other subspecialties (Heart Failure, vascular, Electrophysiology and device, or Imaging).

Environment and Shift Details

This role is full-time, Monday – Friday—closed weekends and holidays.

Medical Records Specialist Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience: 1 year of experience in healthcare & 1 year of experience with EPIC (EMR).
  • Certificates and Licenses: No certifications or licenses.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and emails; Write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees.
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to identify and problem-solve.

Medical Records Specialist Position Summary

In this role at Cardiac Study Center/Pulse Heart Institute, our Medical Records Specialist personnel are crucial in managing and maintaining patient healthcare information. They are responsible for collecting, scanning, and maintaining all personal healthcare information within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system - EPIC. This position ensures that patient records are accurately documented and appropriately disseminated, contributing to the seamless operation of our outpatient cardiology services.

Medical Records Specialist Responsibilities

  • Collect, scan, and maintain patient healthcare information in the EMR system.
  • Distribute incoming requests for personal healthcare information (PHI) and ensure proper documentation in the EHR.
  • Manage and organize incoming mail and faxes and distribute them appropriately.
  • Process requests for medical records and ensure they are authorized and logged accurately.
  • Research and prepare records for upcoming patient visits.
  • Answer and manage phone calls to the Medical Records department professionally.
  • Process forms and letter requests under provider direction, ensuring they are properly documented.
  • Review and organize requests for chart reviews from outside entities.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

Cardiac Study Center/Pulse Heart Institute provides a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental, and retirement benefits, and paid time off. As various pay transparency laws require, CSC/PHI shares a competitive compensation range for candidates hired into each position. The entry-level compensation for this position is $21.73, and the pay scale is $21.73 - $32.31 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
