Care New England is Hiring a Safety and Emergency Preparedness Manager Near Warwick, RI

Job Summary:

Responsible for the development, implementation, and/or monitoring of the environment of care management programs consisting of environmental safety, utilities management, clinical equipment management, life safety, hazardous materials and waste management, and Emergency Preparedness, for Kent Hospital and all Hospital owned properties including off site offices and laboratories to minimize risks for employees, patients, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops policies and procedures to minimize loss potential, enhance Hospital operations and ensure regulatory compliance in accordance with Joint Commission, National Fire Protection Association, Americans with Disabilities Act, Facility Guidelines Institute, Department of Environmental Management, Environmental Protection Agency, Warwick Sewer Authority and all other applicable laws and standards.

Serves as manager of Risk Management/Safety Department. Interviews, hires, trains, completes performance evaluations, and initiates disciplinary action as necessary for subordinate staff.

Chairs the Hospital Safety Committee. Monitors performance of all EOC disciplines. Oversees the preparation of meeting minutes for distribution. Prepares monthly reports and agendas. Tracks all outstanding items until completion. Serve as a member of any sub committee of the Environment of Care Committee.

Co-Chairs the workplace violence committee with the Security Manager. Participates in development of meeting reports and agendas. Reviews workplace violence incidents with committee members. Assists in the development of policies, procedures and action plans relative to workplace violence prevention.

Chairs the Emergency Preparedness Committee. Oversees the preparation of meeting minutes for distribution. Prepares monthly reports and agendas. Tracks all outstanding items until completion. Maintains an up-to-date Emergency Operations Plan including an all-hazards approach. Guide Hospital leadership through the four phases of emergency response: Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

Coordinate and conduct required disaster drills to evaluate emergency plans and procedures. Conduct post incident reviews of planned and unplanned events and exercises. Develop after action reports and track items of opportunity to completion.

Respond to disasters and emergent conditions at the main hospital and offsite facilities. Assist with incident command set-up and incident management. Maintain professional relationships with emergency response agencies and vendors.

Conducts hazard surveillance inspections of all Hospital spaces and property including off-site offices and clinics, for safety related deficiencies semiannually. Findings are compiled and reported to applicable departments, administration, and the Hospital Safety Committee for action.

Analyzes Safety Event Manager reports completed by other departments. Conducts root cause analysis, incident investigations, Collaborative Case Reviews on appropriately assigned events. Recommends or implements corrective actions and develops risk minimization techniques as conclusions warrant.

Conducts Code Red drills in accordance with National Fire Protection Association and Join Commission Standards. Conduct Code Red Critiques of drills and actual code red events. Analyzes outcome of drills and initiate appropriate corrective action, i.e., training, work orders, etc.

Manages ongoing safety awareness and performance-oriented education program. Conduct safety and emergency preparedness education to all levels of the organization including participating in new employee Hospital Orientation program.

Participates in pre-construction risk assessments ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Conduct and implement Interim Life Safety Measures for any existing or temporary, due to construction, Life Safety Code deficiencies. Serve as the primary permitting authority for the Hot Work Permitting Process.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
