PNP Staffing Group is excited to have been retained by Women's Audio Mission to lead their search for a Director of Finance and Operations. (Please note, this role is hybrid, 3 days per week in the office in San Francisco.)
About Women's Audio Mission
Women's Audio Mission (WAM) is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in the music industry through music and media production training, mentoring and access to technology. WAM's innovative and award-winning model has supported over 20,000 girls, women, and gender-expansive people since 2003, providing them with training, access, and pathways into the audio industry. WAM offers a collaborative, energetic work environment full of passionate professionals who strive to create programs that transform the lives of the students and artists with whom we work. We strive to build an inclusive community that meets the needs and reflects the diverse backgrounds of our constituents and community.
Seeded by a major gift from Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, WAM is currently in a $9M Expansion Campaign to support the opening of locations in Los Angeles and Nashville.
Position Summary
The Director of Finance and Operations will be a key strategic thought-partner, reporting to the Executive Director (ED). The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative leader that supports the finance, business planning and budgeting, human resources and operations functions. The Director of Finance and Operations will lead all day-to-day finance operations of a growing nonprofit with an operating budget of $1.7M and a $9M expansion campaign ($4M raised to date).This includes overseeing accounting, accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable and grants administration. This is a fantastic opportunity to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization.
Primary Objectives and Responsibilities
Financial Management:
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, accounting and reporting systems to ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly and annual financial reports for Executive Director and Board of Director's review in an accurate, and timely manner.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
  • Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED and prepare the annual operating budget. Work with program staff to manage program and grant budgets, and monitor the budget vs. actuals of each program and the organization. Keep leadership abreast of the organization's financial status.
  • Develop organization-wide systems and controls across multiple locations. Identify operational improvements to streamline and make internal processes more efficient and effective.
  • Oversee all grants accounting, ensuring that expenditures align with the grant agreement and project/program budgets throughout the grant period. Collect all financial reports and expenditure receipts needed to support grant reporting for foundation, corporate and government grants and contracts.
  • Improve and maintain the finance department's overall policy and procedure manual.
Human Resources and Operations:
  • Refine and manage the onboarding process of new employees.
  • Maintain the company's employee handbook and company wiki to make sure all organization policies and systems are current and easily accessible to employees.
  • Provide training and resources to staff on company systems, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all organization facilities to ensure efficient operations
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of experience with demonstrated success leading nonprofit finance and operations functions
  • Demonstrated experience managing organization audits
  • A track record in grants management including reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential
  • Deep knowledge of accounting and reporting software/systems including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, etc.
  • Technology savvy, experience working with CRMs, Salesforce is a plus, as well as familiarity with Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office programs and other online tools;
  • Ability to develop, and implement process improvements, system overhauls and solutions to ensure organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proven ability to integrate new technologies, systems and practices into existing infrastructure
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment

Compensation & Benefits
  • $110,000 to $130,000 annual salary
  • Paid Time Off: Up to 21 days per year accrued over time, 11 holidays, a floating holiday, sick time accrual.
