CareerSource Broward is Hiring a Veterans Business Services Representative (LVER) Near Fort Lauderdale, FL

The Work You Will Do:

The local Veterans’ Employment Representative (LVER) in a Career Center and/or corporate environment assists with the development of the service delivery strategies for veterans and educating partner staff with current employment initiatives and programs for veterans. The LVER Government Operations Consultant II is a member of the DEO team with CareerSource Broward.

THIS IS A VETERAN FUNDED POSITION. Appointment to this position must be made in the order of preference provided by Public Law 100-323, as follows: To qualified service-connected disabled veterans; then, to qualified eligible veterans; and if no such eligible veteran is available, to qualified persons (as defined in 38 U.S.C.) Applicants claiming veteran preference must provide a copy of their DD-214 Member 4 copy and when claiming disabled veteran preference must provide a copy of their DD-214 Member 4 copy AND statement of disability from the Veteran's Administration. Applicants applying must ensure that required military documents, DD-214 Member 4 copy and CURRENT U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) statement of disability letter, are submitted prior to closure of job announcement.Performs duties outlined in Title 38 of the United States Code (U.S.C.), 4104(b)(1)(2), as amended by the Public Law 100-323.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will assist in helping Floridians obtain wage replacement benefits for qualified individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own. Your knowledge and skills will be utilized to help our citizens. DEO is a fast-paced work environment in which critical thinking and prioritizing is a must.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct employer outreach and seminars.
  • Maintains regular contact with community leaders, employers, labor unions, training programs, and Veterans’ Organizations to keep them apprised of eligible Veterans and other appropriate organizations as directed for employment and/or training opportunities.
  • Assists with the development of the service delivery strategies for veterans in their assigned career center, as well as educating all CareerSource partner staff with current employment initiatives and programs for veterans.
  • Assists with data collection, analysis and report writing.
  • In conjunction with employers, conduct job search workshops and establish job search groups.
  • Facilitate employment, training and placement services furnished to veterans in CareerSource under the Employ Florida Service delivery system.
  • Plans and participates in job and career fairs.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills as the position requires significant report writing and public speaking responsibilities.
  • Informs Federal contractors of the process to recruit qualified veterans, which may include reports and/or data.
  • Promotes credentialing and licensing opportunities for veterans.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to promote and market Career Center.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in individual and group settings, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic sales principles and skills.
  • Knowledge of workforce plans and business/management principles.
  • Ability to prepare reports to include recording, evaluating and analyzing data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to make presentations in groups or individual settings.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge/experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Work, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state and national law enforcement records.

Minimum:

  • Complete training through National Veterans Training Institute (NVTI) within 18 months after the date of employment.
  • The incumbent must possess or obtain certification as a Workforce Professional Tier 1 within 90 days of employment in the position.
  • Possess a degree from an accredited post-secondary educational institution, years of service substitute on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education.
  • Required to travel locally and must furnish own transportation
  • The selected candidate may be required to work weekends or after regular work hours at job fairs, or community meetings once or twice per month.

Preferred:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Human Services, Education, or related field.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience in areas related to employment security: interviewing, counseling, job placement, aptitude testing and assessments, job development, or job analysis may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education.

Ability to analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and problem solve
