Role Summary
The SDV Hub team is responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing key platforms and services for CARIAD’s next generation Software Defined Vehicle Operating System (SDV-OS). The Distinguished Software Engineer, Systems Performance Engineering position is an engineering lead role, focusing on System Performance Engineering. This Distinguished Software Engineer will build a team to drive and support System Performance Engineering methodologies across the software group. The aim of this Systems Performance Engineering team is to support the goal that vehicle software in production consumes resources within the available bounds across products, while ensuring best-in-class user experience. The role is part of CARIAD’s senior technical team and involves interfacing with multiple stakeholders of VW Group’s technical teams.
Role Responsibilities
  • Develop a set of processes and methodologies to ensure that the system-wide resource utilization profile of operation of SDV-OS and applications running on top of SDV-OS is well understood, safely within bounds of the existing physical resources across products, and systematically tracked as the system evolves.
  • Work closely with other SDV-OS software engineering teams to support their performance engineering needs.
  • Work closely with development of new platforms and cost engineering bringing a keen focus on performance impact.
  • Establish a shared set of goals and requirements with SDV-OS and application engineering teams, and a set of tools and processes which standardize how resource utilization is estimated, measured and tracked.
  • Develop and nurture a world class team of engineers ready to support other engineering teams through the performance engineering lifecycle: from early-stage performance estimation, advice/review of high- and low-level designs to maximize performance and ensure diagnosable performance in the field, all the way to diagnosing some of the hardest performance issues.
Years of Experience
  • 15 years of experience in high-performance distributed software design across embedded systems & cloud.
  • 10 years of experience with different operating systems: Linux with experience in performance tools and techniques
  • 15 years of professional experience in delivering complex software products to the end customer.
  • 10 years of experience as a tech lead, significantly contributing to overarching system design and SW architecture matters
Required Education
  • BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

CompensationSalary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training.
In the city of Redmond, Washington, the salary range for this position is $177,800 - $292,100.
In the city of Mountain View, California, the salary range for this position is $185,500 - $304,800.
