Esports Assistant Coach Job DescriptionTime Requirement:
  • 1 to 2 afternoons or evenings per week
  • 4:00 to 7:00 pm or 4:00 to 8:00 pm depending on match and practice schedule
  • Season typically runs mid-September through mid-December and mid-January through mid-May
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee weekly team matches against other high schools and practices from the esports lab.
  • Communication with other schools’ coaches and directors during matches.
  • Assisting students in using the lab and club equipment.
  • Encourage parental involvement in student participation and effectively communicate with students and parents within the program.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere within the program.
  • Understands current gaming trends and strategies, as well as all platforms of gaming equipment.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Head Coach and Administration.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, as well as school board policies, regarding education, students, and professional responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Administrative DutiesAssist head coach in the development of the schedule.
Assist the head coach in the necessary preparation to conduct practices, competitions and special events.
Have a thorough understanding of the policies, rules, regulations and philosophies of the administration, school corporation, and Indiana High School Gaming Leagues. Support and enforce said policies, rules, regulations and philosophies in spirit as well as practice.
Be aware of and attend meetings appropriate to the program and job responsibilities.
Understand the administrative chain of command and work through the proper channels when making requests or voicing concerns or grievances.
Work to stay abreast of new innovations in the sport. Maintain a sound philosophy and practical approach to working with students. Constantly seek to improve as a coach.
Assist in the maintenance of current and accurate rosters throughout the season.
Student ResponsibilitiesExpect teams to behave in a manner that represents the school and community in the best light.
Provide appropriate supervision at all times.
Be a motivator. Balance positive encouragement with constructive criticism. Demonstrate a mature enthusiasm.
Assist in providing oversight to the students’ academic progress and conduct.
EvaluationPerformance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Head Coach and Administration in accordance with established job goal and performance responsibilities.
