Carnegie Mellon University is Hiring an Electrical Engineer, National Robotics Engineering Center Near Pittsburgh, PA

The National Robotics Engineering Center is seeking an electrical engineer to contribute to the design of groundbreaking robotics systems. The candidate will contribute to robot design, fabrication, assembly, and testing with a solid application of electrical engineering principles and practice. As an institution working on robotics systems, a successful candidate will keep an open mind to problem solving and reaching solutions with an interdisciplinary team. Candidates should be eager to immerse themselves in challenges and be willing to learn and apply new domain specific knowledge.
Your primary responsibilities are to:
  • Research, identify and test relevant circuits and sensors
  • Find new sensors and ICs relevant to implementing and improving designs
  • PCB board design, schematic and layout
  • Circuit prototyping, PCB assembly and rework
  • Generate wiring diagrams
  • Source and procure electronic components and lab supplies
  • Participate in hardware design process, reviews, and testing
  • Perform light fabrication of prototype parts for robots
  • Assemble and test mechanical and electrical assemblies
  • Document analysis, design, and test results
  • Travel to support field experiments
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Experience in developing electrical circuits and electrical systems
  • Circuit design software experience (Altium preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Python/Bash scripting, Matlab, C, C
  • Experience with MCU firmware development, Atmel and STM32
  • Experience around FGPA development and Industrial IO systems
  • Experience with High speed routing and fabrication considerations
  • Experience with Imaging, optics and power supply design
  • Embedded and industrial computing
  • Motor controller design and specification and smart-battery design
  • 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks)
