Description
Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Advanced Care Providers and Registered Nurses in the provision of gastrointestinal care that is safe, comprehensive, compassionated and culturally sensitive.
This is a float position and candidates will be working primarily at either (based on need):
Billingsley Office - 300 Billingsley Rd. or
Pineville Office - 1620 Park Rd.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Works as part of a team focused on the delivery of high quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
· Ensures the safety of patients at all times during office visits and when providing guidance.
· Promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional friendly manner and responding promptly to patient requests for tasks, prescription refills, authorizations, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
· Assumes responsibility for orderliness of exam rooms, weigh stations, equipment and patient areas to maintain clean and safe environment. Prepares exam rooms, restocks supplies as necessary and disposes of expired supplies.
· Completes pre-certifications for medications and authorizations.
· Utilizes universal precautions and infection prevention measures to comply with CDHA clinical policies, OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory agency standards.
· Coordinates the timely flow of patients in office and assist with tasks.
· Conducts patient intake activities including, greeting and escorting patients, identifying patients using two identifiers, assessing vital signs, biometric measures, medical history, current symptoms, and medication/allergy reviews at every visit.
· Update labs with current diagnosis code.
· Reports to provider the patient’s chief complaint, current symptoms and abnormal findings.
· Assist in the collection of specimens of body fluids for laboratory testing. Completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pick up
· Documents medical information appropriately in EHR and communicates with appropriate team members in timely manner.
· Maintains patient medical charts with current data and past medical history to meet meaningful use requirements including closing tasks to demonstrate coordination of care.
· Communicates and educates patient about conditions, procedures and plan of care.
· Ensure orders for procedures, laboratory and imaging are scheduled, conducted and results are directed to physician in timely manner.
· Performs and understands breath tests, pill cam placements and other procedures as instructed by providers.
· Answers phone calls and triages patient calls promptly according to protocol including sick calls.
· Follows up with patients to ensure progression of plan of care and assess patient compliance with treatment. Conducts reminder calls to all patients as necessary.
· Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or initiates a triage slip for response by medical personnel. (Assistant Consults)
· Schedules appointments and enters appointment date and time into electronic scheduler.
· Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
· Upholds the CDHA mission by actively contributing to the achievement of organizational goals, supporting leadership, promoting unity and teamwork for the benefit of patients.
· Demonstrates a commitment to quality of care
· Maintains a clear focus on patient safety in every interaction with every patient.
· Actively participate in workplace improvement to maintain a patient service excellence environment
· Adheres to all industry standards related to infection control, patient confidentiality, and regulatory and accrediting body's requirements (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, and AAAHC).
· Follow and comply with all safety policies.
· Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.
Requirements
Education/ and or Experience:
· RMA or CMA certification preferred.
· Two year certificate from college or technical school; or minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Maintains knowledge, skills and abilities through ongoing education.
· Completes all mandatory reviews/educational required and assigned.
· Participates in performance improvement activities.
· Is actively committed to meeting / exceeding employee expectations / satisfaction in the performance of job functions.
· Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes.
