Summary
• Under the direction of the deparment management and the assigned Registered Nurse, this position will provide continuous observation and monitorinf of patients at high risk of cauing injury to self or others during their hosptial stay. Safely performs a variety of patient care tasks. Population served by this position is all age groups.
Responsibilities
• Monitors and improves safety for patients who remain a danger to themselves or others despite reorientation, redirections, and other alternatives to having a sitter. • Monitors patients using direct line of sight. (This can be done in person at the bedside or with the use of video monitoring equipment.)• Collaborates with nursing staff to determine approprite items needed in the patient room. Monitors for these items and removes them as necessary. • Demonstrates customer oriented approach, by treating patients, staff, and visitors with kindness and respect.• Reports any observations of increased agitation, confusion, or change in condition to nursing staff.• Documents observations and care appropriately in the electronic health record.• Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient, safe, and cost effective manner.• Redirects and intervenes to help prevent patient injury or fall.• Must be able to maintain confidentiality of patient information.• Maintains an orderly and clean environment for patients and co-workers, transports and use equipment appropriately.• Assists patients to the restroom.• Performing vital signs.• Assisting to turn or pull a patient up in bed.• Assists with activities of daily living. (Bathing, dressing, oral care, etc.)• Assists with meals and feeds patients as needed.• Provides for comfort needs of patient and/or family members.• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
o High School diploma or equivalent.o Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for healthcare providers.o Must ne able to show at least one of the following:o Completion of a certified nurse's aide course within the last two (2) years.o Completion of fundamentals of nursing (1st semester of nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.)o Recent (within the last two (2) years) job experience as a patient care provider and completion of a certified nurse's aide course in the past.o Completion of a hosptial specific training regarding sitter and patient care duties.o Must successfully complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry.
