Summary
• Under the direction of the department manager and supervision of a Charge Nurse, demonstrates proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient. Employees in this position will not be primarily assigned to a specific unit; the expectation is to be assigned to a unit when they report to work.
Responsibilities
• Obtains and documents nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems. Assesses vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed. • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.• Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that includes the patient and family and communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient. Documents upon the changing needs of the patient and incorporates each patients’ chronic and acute conditions.• Performs competently those technical skills considered basic to the type of care given on that unit. Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans.• Evaluates and notes the individual patient’s response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records. • Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific education. Assists in teaching individual and groups of patients in established programs. • Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education events and Employee Health annual requirements meeting established deadlines in doing so.• Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed. Indicates an understanding of the roles of other healthcare team members in patient care and incorporates their input into the care plan. • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the assigned unit specific competency standards. • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.• Acts independently and makes decisions under stress as necessary. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requiredo Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Nevada or current Interim Permito Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for healthcare providerso American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers at time of hire.o American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hireo Acute Care experience required. Must have a minimum of 2 years acute care experience and/or a minimum of one year in critical care required. o Must be willing to float to ICU, TCU, Emergency Department, Emergency Observation Unit (EDO), Telemetry, Medical Oncology, Pediatric, Women & Children, Surgical/Ortho, BHS, and Outpatient Procedures. Preferred o CHEMO, CEN, CCRN, PCCN certifications preferred.
