As the Senior Development Manager, you will make your mark on Jewish life at ASU by working hand in hand with the Executive Director and other organizational leaders on resource and business development, with a focus on continually growing annual support from ASU and Hillel alumni, parents, and friends.
You will serve on a development team led by the Executive Director and composed of a marketing/communications expert, operations manager, and student interns, complemented by a united and dedicated staff. You'll arrive to find solid development operations already in place. Take our development program to the next level with your creativity, attention to detail, and ability to apply critical thinking and strategic thought to Hillel's priorities.
We are seeking someone with a passion for the Jewish community as well as sensitivity to and understanding of Jewish tradition, culture, and practice. The ideal candidate is personable, organized, and excited to work in a fast-paced community-focused environment. You see the big picture and can implement it using a data-driven approach to all of our work.
We foster a warm, welcoming, professional, and motivated space for each other and for hundreds of students. This job has some night/weekend hours for large events, with notice. Growth opportunities include taking on additional development and capital campaign operations responsibilities.
What You'll Do
Donor Strategy, Cultivation & Solicitation
  • Play a key role in the development of and own management of donor strategy for gifts under $5,000 (approx. 700 donors giving $250,000), including segmentation for solicitations and stewardship
  • Identify, and directly engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects (approx. 50) that have a capacity and interest in supporting ASU Hillel with gifts of $1,000 or more.
  • Support the Executive Director with moves management for donors above $5,000 (approx 50 individuals & foundations) and prospects
Special Events
  • Ensure financial goals are met for special events by overseeing the vision and production of fundraising events, including donor appreciation events, annual gala, and community outreach activities.
    • Includes collaboration with staff, contractors and volunteer leaders to envision, plan, execute, and follow up
Database Management and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and gift records in the organization's database, Little Green Light.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to assess fundraising progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide regular updates to leadership and board of directors.
  • Support the Operations Manager and Executive Director in developing, updating, and documenting gift entry, acknowledgment, and recognition policies.
Volunteer Engagement
  • Maximize board networks by supporting board engagement in development efforts
  • Support other volunteers as needed to achieve development goals
  • Develop relationships with student leaders to gain a firsthand understanding and appreciation of the work they do and how Hillel positively impacts their lives.
Communication and Outreach
  • Supervise part-time Campus Marketing/Development Manager in
    • Creation of communications calendar
    • Development of written content, design & distribution of monthly parent & alumni newsletters
    • Social media campaigns
    • Direct mail packages, and digital appeals
  • Oversee production of annual report
  • Draft development-related materials as needed, including updates to existing pieces or the creation of new pieces at the request of the Executive Director or key donors

What You'll Bring to the Job
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience and proven success in nonprofit fundraising and development. We will also consider candidates with experience and proven success in related fields such as business development, sales, PR, Marketing, Communications, nonprofit management
  • Familiarity with a variety of software (e.g. Little Green Light or other CRM, Mailchimp or similar, Microsoft Excel, Canva) and/or a proven ability to learn quickly
  • An eagerness to learn new systems and strategies and to contribute your own ideas too
  • A passion for supporting Hillel at ASU's mission of enriching the lives of Jewish students at ASU and growing the next generation of Jewish leaders.
  • A contagious personality and a desire to deepen the relationship between Hillel and donors, parents, and alumni.
  • A can-do attitude and ability take risks, learn from both your wins and losses, and pivot when plans need to change with short notice
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional roles/teams
What You'll Receive
  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $55,000-$70,000
