TYPE OF POSITION: Special Education Program Coordinator
SALARY: Established by the Board of Education (Estimated $75,000 per year)
EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1st 2024– 191 day contract
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (M.A.) and experience in special education (teaching or as a related service provider).
  • Professional Education License as an administrator (GADM, General Administrator endorsement) preferred.
  • Experience with Special Education Programs including; Early Childhood Education, TLC (Autism)
POSITION SUMMARY:This individual assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising in areas within the special services department and is responsible for planning and coordinating specialized programs such as the Early Childhood program, Teaching, Life Skills and Communication (TLC) program, Specialized Resource and Out-of-District student placements. The coordinator will conduct IEP meetings at the building level, supervising and overseeing staff working with the specialized programs. This individual also helps to plan and facilitate special education extended school year programs and private school proportionate share obligations.
Responsibilities Include
  • Assists Director of Special Services by providing leadership in the development, support, professional development, training, and effective implementation of special education programs in the district.
  • Supports the implementation special education service, in compliance with all applicable laws/regulations.
  • Supports the transition of services from Early Intervention.
  • Coordinates Pre-School Screening as part of the Child Find process, as required by IDEA law.
  • Coordinates ordering of specialized materials needed in the early childhood education program.
  • Supports the implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) strategies.
  • Participates in the analysis of state and local assessment data, and use of data to inform additional intervention and specialized supports that are needed for struggling learners.
Skills
  • Knowledge of disabilities, effective special education practices, specialized supports and classroom management strategies
  • Knowledge of Federal Law and State Regulation and local mandates in special education
  • Understanding of specialized technology
  • Knowledge of the role, use, and implementation of specialized services
  • Knowledge of the data analysis process and the use of data to inform curriculum, instruction and intervention
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to provide direction and support in all areas within the Special services Department
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines, maintain flexibility, and adjust priorities when necessary
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Experience conducting evaluations of staff
