Case Western Reserve University is Hiring an Assistant Dean, Career Services Near Cleveland, OH

Executive Staff position, Salary Grade 18 or above.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Dean for Career Success will serve as a visionary leader in shaping the strategic direction of student engagement, career development and student outcomes within the Weatherhead School of Management. Collaborates with direct reports and with various departments, programs and staff to enhance student experiences, prepare students for professional and personal success, explore career opportunities, cultivate employer partnerships, and drive successful career outcomes. The primary objective is to foster a dynamic ecosystem that empowers students to thrive professionally, and personally.
Essential Functions
  • Strategic Leadership and Vision: Develop and articulate a strategic vision for career success initiatives aligned with institutional goals and industry trends. Lead the implementation of innovative strategies to enhance student engagement and career development. Assess the effectiveness of career services to inform future initiatives. (25%)
  • Career and Professional Development Design and Implementation: Spearhead the design and implementation of a comprehensive student experience focused on career readiness. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and employers to create programs, workshops, and resources that enhance students' professional skills and employability. Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of career development opportunities into the academic curriculum. Provide leadership, guidance and partnership in the design and delivery of mentorship programs, and professional development workshops. (25%)
  • Positive Student Outcomes: Develop and direct a successful, repeatable student career journey that includes professional development and career readiness, career mentoring and coaching, and optimal student outcomes (with a particular focus on internships and full-time employment). (25%)
  • Employer and External Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers, industry leaders, alumni, and key stakeholders to enhance networking, internship, and full-time employment opportunities. Drive initiatives to expand employer engagement and increase internship and job placement rates. Collaborate with external partners and the Corporate Relations team and other initiatives that engage potential employers that benefit student outcomes and enhance the school's reputation. (25%)

CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with colleagues (participate in departmental, program and staff meetings (as appropriate), and participate and lead ongoing training). Pursue shared goals and collaborate to achieve immediate operating results and strategic priorities.
University: Regular contact with faculty and staff colleagues at Weatherhead along with peers outside of Weatherhead (e.g., undergraduate Career Center).
External: Occasional alumni and employers, advisory boards, friends of the school.
Students: Regular contact with students.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirect supervisory responsibility for the Career Success team.
QualificationsExperience: Minimum 10 years progressive leadership experience in career services (career readiness, career exploration and employer engagement), student affairs, or related field within higher education.
Education/Licensing: Master's degree required. PhD preferred or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education administration, counseling, business administration, etc.).

  • Ability to design, launch, and manage innovative programs that enhance the student experience, from career readiness and professional growth opportunities to comprehensive support services that address academic, personal, and professional development.
  • Ability to foster and expand relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including employers, industry leaders, alumni, and academic partners. This involves not only maintaining existing partnerships but also identifying and cultivating new ones to benefit students' career opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of career development theories, practices, and trends, with a proven ability to oversee career services and programs that meet the diverse needs of students. This includes facilitating internships, job placements, and networking opportunities, as well as offering career counseling and guidance.
  • Comprehension of business hiring practices (in general) and the ability to match employer needs with students¿ capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively across departments and disciplines to integrate career and student success initiatives into the broader academic and institutional framework. This includes leading and motivating the Career Success team to achieve departmental and institutional goals, in close collaboration with other functional groups, including Enrollment and Recruitment and Student Success.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging with diverse audiences, from students and faculty to employers and alumni. This includes the capacity to articulate the vision, goals, and outcomes of the career success initiatives effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to leading and integrating DEI initiatives within career and student success strategies, ensuring that programs are accessible and beneficial to all students, reflecting the institution's commitment to inclusivity.
  • Deep understanding of the higher education landscape, student development theories, and the nuances of managing academic and student affairs programs.
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn new software programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment. In person during the school year, with hybrid over the summer. Occasional travel, evenings, and weekend hours as needed.
This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
