Duties And ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Schedules and assigns work to be done to other employees in transportation.
- Provides on the job instruction of repair and service practices for other employees.
- Participates in the screening, selection and discipline of transportation employees.
- Tests and inspects completed work of other technicians to assure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Maintains or oversees the maintenance of all or some portion of record keeping and reporting necessary to the transportation programs.
- Processes material and supply purchases.
- Investigates and reports accidents in which school transportation equipment is involved.
- Oversees North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles required inspection of buses and other school-owned vehicles.
- Maintains any permits needed for the transportation,example UST permit.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Special RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with school bus certification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSPhysical Requirements: Requires light physical work. Must be able to lift mail and boxes up to ten pounds. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a computer.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.
Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesThorough knowledge of school bus and vehicles operation and maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines and other mechanical components of school buses and service vehicles.
Thorough knowledge of the tools and equipment used in vehicular repair shops.
Ability to diagnose the causes of improperly operating electrical and generating systems of automotive vehicles and to make necessary repairs.
Ability to comprehend and apply North Carolina Inspection Law.
Ability to direct work of mechanics.
