Catholic Charities Boston is Hiring an ESOL Teacher/El Centro Near Boston, MA

Position DescriptionThe ESOL Teacher – Level 4 for the El Centro Adult Education Program teachers English to students at the intermediate level of language proficiency; provides academic advising and personalized support to students; develops up-to-date curriculum materials following student needs and goals; and works collaboratively with El Centro Director of Education. Full-time position.
Responsibilities
  • Teach 8 hours of ESOL to adult students at intermediate level, including 4 hours of remote and 4 hours of face-to-face instruction.
  • Teach 8 hours of Critical Thinking/Writing to students at the high intermediate ESOL level, including 4 hours of remote and 4 hours of face-to-face instruction.
  • Teach 4 hours of Distance Learning Education to a group of fully remote students at the intermediate/high intermediate levels. 2 hours of remote synchronous (Zoom) and 2 hours of remote asynchronous instruction.
  • Adhere to ESOL Professional Standards to deliver effective instruction meeting learners’ needs.
  • Maintain communications with students in a culturally sensitive manner and timely address student issues.
  • Integrate computer technology into the program curriculum.
  • Develop curriculum and instructional materials following student needs and reflecting environmental changes.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Provide academic advising to students.
  • Coordinate volunteer services of the assigned to the class volunteer tutors.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Maintain students' records in agency reporting tools.
  • Facilitate culturally sensitive and inclusive environment conducive to students’ academic, personal, and professional development.
  • Fulfil ad-hock responsibilities according to program needs.
  • Work in close collaboration with a team of ESOL instructors, coaches, and advisors.
  • Participate in professional development and apply new knowledge and practices.
  • Perform work in a classroom and remote home/office environment as approved with the use of computers, phones, and other office equipment. Remote work may be changed to on-site as required.
  • Maintain a professional environment conducive to efficient school operations.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and trainings as required.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a similar environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practices.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Google.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race, and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills.
