What you will do:

Provide supervision, guidance, training, and support to shelter assistants and to residents in emergency shelter.

  • Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
  • Coordinate residential assistant coverage on all shifts (24 hours a day/7 days a week) through consultation with management
  • May hire, evaluate performance, discipline and terminate residential assistants with consultation of management.
  • Conduct residential assistant training in life/fire safety issues; environment of care; equipment management, hazardous materials; utilities management; security management; and emergency preparedness as needed and under direction from management.
  • Monitor the medication check-in process to ensure staff compliance with adherence to established procedures.
  • May facilitate training of all shelter assistants on breathalyzer testing requirements and procedures through consultation with Program Director.
  • Co-facilitate monthly shelter assistant meetings with program director and/or case management supervisor.
  • Monitor residents’ activities and enforce program conduct guidelines and/or rules as warranted.
  • Supervise alcohol/drug dependent clients as warranted by program.
  • Provide client support and guidance.
  • Document services provided to clients in both Avatar and Penelope.
  • Monitor staff CPR/First Aid Training.
  • May transport clients in organizational vehicle to various meetings, appointments etc.
  • Prepare requisitions of inventory and supplies.
  • Will provide residential assistant coverage as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to accomplish objectives.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Weekends Only: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Shift: 12:00AM - 12:00PM

  • Travel throughout service area required for transporting clients to and from activities;
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, navigate stairs on an frequent basis at work site for stocking shelves, working with clients and maintaining a safe environment;
  • Reading, writing and finger dexterity to manage data entry, faxing, copying, answering phones, forms/documents, computer and client files required on a frequent basis;
  • Tasks require visual perception and discernment for looking through belongings on an occasional basis;
  • Respond to crises as they occur on the floor by quick and spontaneous whole body movements (walking, bending, standing, pushing, pulling) to perform de-escalation with clients on a frequent basis.

• Able to occasionally lift/carry up to 30 lbs. unassisted.

Requirements:

  • Combination of experience and education normally represented by a High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in residential or shelter program/services depending on program served.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must be able to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
  • Must have competent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working with a team of professional staff desirable.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and are subject to a Moving Vehicle Report (MVR) check through the Department of Motor Vehicles annually. Any MVR grade of “unacceptable” is not permitted to operate a personal vehicle on behalf of Catholic Charities.
  • Must provide a copy of driver’s license.
  • Must be flexible and willing to be a team player in assisting program implementation (including shift coverage).
  • Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
