Job Details
DescriptionPay Rate: $19.00 per hourGallagher Services supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living the life of their choice. They are supported in living, working, and being involved in the community as independently as possible.
Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Gallagher Services is currently seeking a Medical Support Professional (MSP) who will provides (physical, social, behavioral, career, and personal) to persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) living and working in the community. The DSP ensures that human, civil, and legal rights of all people are protected by advocating, teaching, promoting dignity, and reasonable risk and following mandatory reporting guidelines for the people supported quality living support (physical, social, behavioral, career, and personal) to persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) living and working in the community.
Required schedule: Monday - Friday 8a-4:30p with minimum flexibility, pending needs of scheduled on-site physician visitation.Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advocate for people when assisting them with medical appointments.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during medical appointments, hospital and ER visits, etc. including
transferring, ADLs, assisting medical professionals during exams, etc.
  • Ensure doctor’s orders and related paperwork is completed and clearly understood prior to leaving the
physician’s office.
  • Relay all pertinent information/concerns/issues from appointments to Manager, Supervisor and Nurse in
a timely manner. Coordinate with Nurse, Manager, and physician’s office to ensure that new
prescriptions and refill medications are ordered and received within agency time frames.
  • Utilize the Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) approach for prevention, intervention, teaching, and
attending to behaviors.
  • Maintains knowledge of Nursing Plans of Care (NPOC), feeding protocols, and safety practices and
procedures including universal precautions.
  • Utilize iCare Manager (Case Management Software) to document all relevant logs (incident reporting,
daily log, medical appointment records, nursing reports and assessments, medication errors, etc.)
  • Maintain individual’s medical files
  • Conduct Medical Appointment Audits quarterly to ensure all medical appointments/procedures/age
related testing are completed as ordered by the physician.
  • Distribute medical records and nursing paperwork for the program to physician’s offices, nursing
agency, Managers, day programs and pharmacy.
  • Follow-up and obtain test and lab results/report findings to nursing agency.
  • Assist in charting, filing, coding, and other record keeping tasks.
  • Maintain inventory record of individuals’ medical supplies; purchase medical supplies, track orders and
submit invoices.
  • Process monthly cycle medications by reconciling prescription information against physician’s order
forms, pharmacy profile and Medication Administration Record.
  • Collect, audit, document, and package all discontinued/expired medications for disposable according to
agency policy and procedure.
  • Liaison between the pharmacy and program.
  • Administer medications according to policies and procedures of Medication Technician Training
Program/Certified Medication Technician (MTTP/CMT) curriculum, and applicable regulations.
  • Follow appropriate hand-off procedure. Follow emergency and on-call procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED Certification/Licensure.
  • Two years’ experience in personal care, medical care, or CNA.
  • Some experience in the ID/DD or related field preferred.

  • All Agency required trainings must be completed within three (3) months of employment: First
Aid/CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), Mandt® (Positive Behavioral Supports Training), Skills
Training, DDA Core Training, Choking and Dysphagia.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
  • Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and to observe and
communicate with others.
  • Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years
of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state
of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede driver’s ability
to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on
their driving record.
