JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Nutrition Educator Aide

Department Name: Health & Wellness

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: Provides nutrition education to the CalFresh Healthy Living eligible population; and also provides administrative assistance to the Project Coordinators in compiling and tracking program data, report preparation, and other duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assists the Project Coordinators with nutrition education program planning and development.
  • Provides “one-on-one” general nutrition education as well as general nutrition education in a classroom/outdoor, virtual, or group setting.
  • Staffing health fairs and other community or promotional events where nutrition education is a focus.
  • Presents physical activity component of nutrition education to eligible program participants.
  • Distributes linguistically and culturally appropriate nutrition education materials.
  • Completes project reports, preparation of quarterly reports; and maintains program reporting and tracking systems.
  • Presents structured low-impact physical activity routines, as a component of the nutrition education program to eligible participants.
  • Calls, texts, and emails CalFresh Healthy Living clients.
  • Conducts outreach and recruitment in the community at health fairs, food pantries, and special events.
  • Attend/participate in trainings, webinars, conference calls, and evaluation calls.
  • Local travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts food demonstrations for live participants/audiences and possibly in a video-recorded form.

Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.

Dependability - Follows instructions/responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent education and experience preferred. One or more years of relevant experience providing services and assistance to those in need. Experience in community, outreach, and recruitment work preferred. Comfortable working in outdoor settings.

Bilingual Language Ability: English Must also speak Spanish or Vietnamese
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.

Mathematical Ability:
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Compute rate, ratio, and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
MS Office, in MS office, Word and Excel/Google docs/voice, Zoom , MS Powerpoint. Experience with website navigation and online event reporting and tracking.
