Position Title: Refugee Foster Family Trainer

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Full or part-time status: Full-time

Department: Migration and Refugee Services

Reports to: Foster Family Capacity Supervisor

Hiring Range $18.00- $23.00/hr. DOE

Primary Function of Position

In this role, you will oversee the quality and delivery of foster parent training, ensuring that they are prepared to parent at a therapeutic level. You will also work closely with the Foster Family Capacity Lead to create a formalized structure specific to Level II and Level III Therapeutic care.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Expertise: Become an expert on the Pressley Ridge evidence-based therapeutic foster parent curriculum.
  • Co-Teaching and Documentation: Co-teach pre-service training sessions with the Foster Family Development Lead and document parent participation.
  • Feedback Implementation: Review feedback surveys and implement suggestions.
  • Retention Support: Improve family retention during training and licensing by addressing barriers, engaging with families, and problem-solving.
  • Placement Adaptation: Assess placement disruption trends and adapt the curriculum to meet parents' needs, specifically for parenting refugee teenagers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Curriculum Enhancement: Supplement the curriculum as necessary.
  • Engaging Training: Find creative ways to make training engaging and practical for parenting skills.
  • Adaptive Teaching: Adjust teaching style to match foster parents' learning preferences.
  • Homework Review and Make-Up Sessions: Review foster parent "homework" and facilitate make-up trainings for late or absent parents.
  • Internal Therapeutic Structure: Collaborate with the Foster Family Development Lead to develop internal therapeutic structures for Level II and Level III care.
  • Continuing Education: Provide training opportunities for foster parents and staff.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and monthly team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Work will be performed primarily inside but will occur in youths' homes, places of employment, educational institutions, and other locations as needed, in addition to being performed in an office.
  • Driving is required for this position.

Physical Demands

  • Work requires sitting and standing for long periods, walking moderate distances, driving, and occasionally assisting youth with physical activities such as carrying groceries or household supplies.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Independent Work: Operates autonomously in a safe and appropriate manner, demonstrating both problem-solving skills and proactive prevention.
  • Sensitivity and Empathy: Displays sensitivity to the needs of youth, foster families, co-workers, volunteers, and others with whom staff interact.
  • Proficient Communication (English): Proficiency in oral and written English communication.
  • Effective Training Delivery: Ability to confidently conduct trainings.
  • Confidentiality Adherence: Must maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Computer Proficiency (Zoom and Online Database): Proficient in computer skills required for the position, including Zoom and the program's online database.
  • Personal Qualities: Exhibit respect, compassion, and graciousness while assisting foster families in supporting youth to succeed in the United States.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Education Preference: A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Foster Care Proficiency: Experience in foster care, particularly related to licensing requirements and family support.
  • Adult Education Experience: Proficient in teaching and training adults.
  • Refugee and Teenager Familiarity: Experience with refugees and teenagers preferred.

Background Screening Requirement

  • Must be able to pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

  • SSW or CSW preferred.
  • Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.

Position status and expected schedule

  • This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and non-exempt.
  • The general schedule will be worked Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 8:00 PM. Rotating weekend on-call schedule 3-4 times a year.
