Catholic Community Services is Hiring a Mental Health Coordinator Near Salt Lake, UT

Position Title: Mental Health Coordinator

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Full or part-time status: Full-time

Department: Migration and Refugee Services

Reports to: Refugee Health Services Supervisor

Hiring Range: $18.00-$23.00/hr. DOE

Primary Function of Position

As the Mental Health Coordinator, you'll lead mental health services for the Catholic Community Services Migration and Refugee Services Program. Your role involves educating refugee clients about mental health resources, connecting them to available services, and empowering them toward mental healthcare self-sufficiency. You will also collaborate with community partners to guide clients in accessing vital resources.

Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Mental Health Assessments: Administer mental health assessments for eligible clients after their initial health screening.
  2. Referrals and Coordination: Facilitate referrals to appropriate mental health providers and coordinate intake logistics.
  3. Assessment Review: Evaluate mental health assessments performed during initial health screening.
  4. Client Education: Educate refugee clients on mental health topics individually and in groups.
  5. Staff Training: Train medical interpreters and CCS staff on trauma-informed services.
  6. Program Development: Strategize Mental Health program development and utilization of available funding.
  7. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate record-keeping for mental health services, including billing.
  8. Collaboration: Attend monthly coordination meetings with mental health partners to address service gaps.
  9. Community Engagement: Engage with refugee communities and service providers for support networks.
  10. Compliance Audit: Audit case files to ensure compliance.
  11. Supervisor Support: Assist the Refugee Health Services Supervisor with other Health Services Program responsibilities.
  12. Additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  1. This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel is anticipated as part of the role's responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  1. While primarily a sedentary role, some filing tasks are involved. This entails lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasionally bending or standing as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. Understanding of Refugee Challenges and Mental Health: Familiarity with the challenges faced by refugees and common mental health conditions prevalent in the populations served by CCS.
  2. Relationship Building and Networking: Comfort and proficiency in building relationships within the community.
  3. Active Listening and Needs Identification: Strong listening skills to identify a broad spectrum of client needs.
  4. Cultural Competence and Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds regarding mental health care, available resources, and access.
  5. Personal Qualities: Exhibit integrity, compassion, empathy, courtesy, dignity, and respect while assisting clients.
  6. Trust Building: Foster trust and confidence in clients and colleagues.
  7. Proficient Communication: Proficiency in oral and written communication, with a preference for a second language.
  8. Team Collaboration: Function effectively as a team member within CCS and with external agencies.
  9. Client Confidentiality: Maintain strict client confidentiality.
  10. Independent Work: Work autonomously in a safe and appropriate manner.
  11. Problem Solving and Prevention: Demonstrate both problem-solving skills and proactive prevention strategies.
  12. Computer Proficiency (Microsoft Office 365): Proficiently use computer applications for financial data, spreadsheets, databases, scheduling, and email.

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferably in Social Work, Public Health, Psychology or Counseling, or equivalent experience.
  2. Data Management: Proficient in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data.
  3. Mental Health Proficiency: Preferably have a background in mental health.
  4. Cultural Competence: Experience serving diverse and multicultural populations is preferred.
  5. Supervisory Skills: Minimum of one year of supervisory experience.

Background Screening Requirements

  1. Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, certifications, and credentials

  1. A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Also, be 21 years old or older, maintain a clean driving record, and can fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
  2. The general schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
