General Position Summary: We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Art Teacher to inspire and develop the artistic abilities of our students from Pre-K through 8th grade in our inner-city Catholic school community. The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students in the Catholic school for whom the teacher is responsible within the framework of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The Teacher has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The ideal candidate will be an actively practicing Catholic committed to our School's Mission, shaping compassionate, knowledgeable, and Christ-centered individuals. The Art Teacher will be responsible for creating a vibrant and engaging art program that encourages hands-on learning, creativity, and an appreciation for art history. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Design and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that meets the developmental needs of students from Pre-K through 8th grade.
• Teach basic art skills and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Adapt lessons to suit the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment that encourages hands-on exploration and experimentation with different art materials and methods.
• Incorporate lessons on art history, introducing students to significant artists, movements, and cultural influences to provide context and inspiration for their own work.
• Assess and evaluate students' artistic development and progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
• Maintain a positive classroom culture that fosters creativity, respect, and collaboration among students.
• Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and coordinate art shows or exhibitions to showcase students' achievements.
• Stay current with best practices in art education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
• Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
• Abides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Diocese Employee Handbook
• Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives, based on adopted curriculum and submitted according to the local school policy
• Provides appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
• Uses effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
• Uses varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments
• Provides instruction and assessment for understanding
• Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
• Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
• Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
• Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
• Responsible for all other projects, tasks, committees, etc., as assigned.

• Required to work some nights and weekends
• Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
• Required to teach a part-time schedule
• Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions
• Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment
• Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
• Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
• Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
• Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather

Travel Requirements:

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic teachings, values, and social justice principles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred).
• Experience teaching art to children in a school setting.
• Prior teaching experience in an inner-city school setting.
• Meets the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED
• Passion for working with children and fostering their creativity.
• Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.

• Strong classroom management skills and ability to establish a positive and structured learning environment, even in challenging circumstances.
• Empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students facing adversity, trauma, or other barriers to learning.
• Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for teaching art to diverse learners, including those with learning differences.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building relationships and partnerships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to continually improve teaching effectiveness and meet the evolving needs of our student population.
