Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Mission Services, the Pastoral Minister ministers to patients and families in regard to religious/spiritual beliefs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the Pastoral Minister provides spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff within the context of illness, suffering, loss, and death. Primary areas of responsibility include units such as Intensive Care, Emergency, Oncology, anti-partum at risk and neo-natal intensive care. Pastoral Ministers receive referrals, complete documentation including Spiritual Assessments as well as provide on-going ministry.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
- Master's Degree in Pastoral Ministry or related field required
- Two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education, preferred
- Active, practicing Catholic preferred with pastoral experience marked by demonstrated grasp of both the complexity of health care as a business and the unique moral, ethical and social expectations placed on the health care provider who claims a Catholic identity
- Well-formed in Catholic tradition, knowledge of Catholic theology and catholic social teaching
- At least two years of experience in one or more of the following are recommended: health care, education, mission or spiritual care
- High level of interpersonal, facilitative and communication skills
- Strong theological reflection skills
- Strong conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
- Commitment to Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services
- Exhibits strong pastoral identity
- Strong emotional and spiritual maturity
- Ability to maintain professional and personal confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
- Flexibility in work hours, programs and services
- Ability to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to utilize computer for documentation, communication and preparation of material for ministry
- Presentation and teaching skills
- Ability to lead and coordinate prayer/Communion services
- Ability to provide group facilitation and critical incident stress management
- Knowledge of Advance Directives policy and ability to facilitate discussion with patient/resident/family
- Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs
- Clinical area of workplace
