Supervisor of HIM Operations
You are a skilled and experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of health information management (HIM) operations. You are an effective leader with a track record of managing teams, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Your ability to navigate complex information systems and foster a collaborative environment ensures the smooth and efficient operation of HIM functions.
What You'll Do
  • Team Management : Lead, train, and supervise a team of HIM staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Operational Oversight : Oversee the daily operations of the HIM department, including the management of health records, data entry, and information retrieval processes.
  • Compliance : Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational policies, including HIPAA and other privacy and security regulations, through regular audits and compliance checks.
  • Process Improvement : Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of HIM operations, including workflow optimization and technology integration.
  • Data Management : Supervise the management of patient health records, including the accurate and timely processing of information, record maintenance, and data quality assurance.
  • Reporting : Prepare and review operational reports, including performance metrics, compliance documentation, and audit findings, and present them to senior management.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with other departments, such as IT and clinical teams, to support the integration and effective use of health information systems and ensure seamless information flow.
  • Problem Solving : Address and resolve operational issues, including discrepancies in health records, system errors, and staff concerns, to maintain smooth HIM operations.
Qualifications
What You Bring
  • Experience : Significant experience in health information management or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, or a related field. Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Skills : In-depth knowledge of HIM practices, data management, and regulatory requirements. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other HIM technologies.
  • Leadership : Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team, drive performance, and foster professional growth.
  • Analytical Skills : Excellent analytical abilities to assess data, identify trends, and implement process improvements effectively.
  • Communication : Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail : High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing health information and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
