SUMMARY
Under direction, to perform a variety of skilled instructional functions pertaining to behavior.
With the right support, students with serious emotional disturbance or behavior disorders can succeed in mainstream classrooms. Schools that have implemented PASS report that their students with ED/BO are experiencing academic and behavioral success in mainstream settings. As an added benefit, they are making significant reductions in the number of students placed in more restrictive environments.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position classification requires subject matter expertise in basic concepts of child growth, development, and developmental behavior characteristics; Student behavior management, strategies, and techniques; Instructional strategies pertaining to basic reading, writing, and mathematical skill development; Correct English, punctuation, spelling and grammar; Routine record & data management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures; Behavioral management pertaining to PASS Program (Positive Approach to Student Success).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic concepts of child growth, development, and developmental behavior characteristics; Student behavior management, strategies, and techniques;
Instructional strategies pertaining to basic reading, writing, and mathematical skill development; Correct English, punctuation, spelling and grammar;
Routine record & data management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures; Behavioral management pertaining to PASS Program (Positive Approach to Student Success)
Ability to:
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students experiencing behavioral learning problems and/or challenges; Communicate effectively in written and oral form and serve as an appropriate language model; Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office machines and computer equipment; Utilize a variety of appropriate reading, writing, and instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults; Implement PASS Program initiatives for all students involved in program;
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Experience:
Successful completion of high school and experience in working in the PASS program.
Education:
Possession of an Associate of Arts degree or 64 college hours or higher degree OR Two years of work-related experience as an instructional assistant or aide in a school setting And experience in working with the PASS Program is helpful, but not required
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
