CBS News and Stations is Hiring a Correspondent Near New York, NY

CBS News and Stations is looking for a creative and dedicated full-time multi-skilled Correspondent with impeccable news judgment, strong story-telling abilities and exceptional on camera delivery. The Reporter/Correspondent will be based at one of our Middle America locations and will own our Middle America coverage, reporting from the field, including live shots, packages, and talkbacks under deadline, appearing on all platforms of CBS News Network and Stations. The Correspondent will develop sources and regularly break news and advance stories. The Correspondent should be passionate about owning the story from cradle-to-grave including producing, writing, shooting and editing. The Correspondent must be a self-starter with the ability to work under tight deadlines and stressful situations. The selected candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, willingness to work in a collaborative manner, a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for news and storytelling.

Responsibilities:
  • Report on air for all platforms of CBS News Network and Stations, including live shots in the field and in-studio debriefs
  • Develop sources, break news and advance stories
  • Provide creative input, pitch, and execute original segments
  • Pursue newsmakers and conduct interviews
  • Quickly gather and verify its accuracy, disseminating critical information for air
  • Craft compelling stories for broadcast and streaming
  • Shoot and edit breaking news, day of air, features, ensuring all pictures and sound are of the highest quality and accurately recorded
  • Cultivate a positive working environment
  • Communicate optimally with various levels within the editorial landscape
  • Appropriately represent CBS News and Stations in public settings including social media
Qualifications:
  • 10 years reporting experience
  • National and/or large market broadcast experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism and/or a related field
  • Proven track record of shooting, writing, and editing visually compelling stories seeking varied perspectives
  • Excellent on-air presence and ability to deliver the news accurately and concisely
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities under tight deadlines
  • Strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards
  • Ability to work long hours as news dictates which could include working on regular days off, weekends and overnight with short notice
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to listen and receive feedback
  • Must be open to travel, sometimes on short notice (may include overnight and/or international travel)
  • Valid driver’s license is required along with the ability and willingness to drive
