Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Cleveland Clinic's Sleep Disorders Center performs more than 9,000 sleep studies each year, using each result to help our patients find answers in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Our Center is looking to add a Registered Polysomnographic Technician to their dedicated team. In this role, your duties will include but are not limited to: Performing basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies. Preparing patients and equipment for testing, as well as performing and documenting the testing. Interviewing the patient to determine sleep disorder issues and explaining the testing. Providing supervision of Polysomnographic Technicians and Polysomnographic Trainees. Scoring, interpreting, and reporting sleep study results. Responsibilities: Reviews history/physical information, medications, test requests and study protocol. Completes and verifies all documentation, i.e. pre and post sleep questionnaires, technician notes. Explains the procedure and orients the patient to the sleep center. Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments if necessary. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Follows procedural protocols (e.g., MSLT, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Follows "Lights Out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rate, etc.) Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and makes adjustments, if necessary. Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc. Follows "Lights On" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and completes the data collection process (e.g. repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing the questionnaires, etc.) Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Assists with scoring sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Assists with scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) with center specific protocols. Assists with generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Performs routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation. Demonstrates effective written and spoken communication skills. Responds to study participant's procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information. Keeps equipment orderly, clean and in good repair. Maintains adequate supplies. Other duties as assigned. Education: High school diploma or GED. Certifications: Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist. Physical Requirements: The employee complies with requirements of regulatory agencies, attends appropriate training and meetings, completes appropriate unit/department specific competency checklists, demonstrates knowledge and appropriate behavior related to regulatory safety requirements, communicates effectively verbally and in written format, complies with policies and procedures, follows Corporate Compliance Program, and reports actual or suspected violations promptly. Physical Duties: This position requires a mixture of light to moderate work as defined in the Employee Health Services Policy. Frequent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, stooping, and kneeling. Normal visual acuity is required. Working Conditions: The employee will spend most of the time indoors in air-conditioned areas.
