Job Description JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Director, Strategic Planning – Cox Business is a critical member of the leadership teams for Cox Business. This senior director will partner with executives to help shape their strategy to drive organizational success and achieve both short- and long-term results. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance to ensure the organization is best positioned to achieve its goals and long-term ambition. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Key Responsibilities: Leads and provides direction to the team responsible for all aspects of strategic planning activities for Cox Business in partnership with the Cox Business executive team and other key stakeholders. Oversees the strategy alignment for both the immediate and long-range plans, including the 10-year ambition and vision for the business; ensures the work of the team aligns with the ambition. Leads the team accountable for ensuring all plans align with overarching strategy and ambition. Directs the team responsible for partnering with leaders to guide the planning processes that produce our strategic roadmap and priorities for Cox Business; shape and influence outcomes with our company-wide planning process and milestones. Oversees and provides direction for the development of short-, medium-, and long-term strategic roadmaps, and ensures alignment with operating, resource allocation, and financial plans and targets. Accountable for ensuring the team understands customers, markets, and technologies to define and establish strategy. Partners with senior leaders, consulting on and influencing strategic decision making. Works with key partners to implement strategies and strategic roadmap elements. Leads the assessment of complex, strategic opportunities and threats and provides guidance on recommended actions to be taken on issues such as: new opportunity spaces and growth levers, go-to-market approach, competitive response, customer experience and retention strategies, and product roadmaps. Works with internal and external colleagues and sources to monitor our environments for impactful trends and provide perspective on impact to the business; translates trends into actional data insights that are useful in driving decision-making that impacts, strengthens, and moves the business forward. Directs the use of creative and innovative approaches to conduct market and competitor research to identify possible threats and opportunities and to inform strategic decision making. Drives change management and employee communication activities, where needed, to help share the strategy and the business drivers supporting it. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum BA/BS degree in a related discipline (i.e. marketing, business, management, economics, finance, etc.) with 12 years of relevant experience with at least 7 years of experience in a leadership role; OR 16 years of equivalent experience in lieu of degree. Experience with: Subscription business models Capital lite and capital-intensive businesses. Broadband and/or wireless businesses Small and medium sized business customers Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge assisting leaders with creating strategic plans that align with short and long-term goals and objectives. Strong knowledge of strategic planning and organizational development. A track record of accomplishments delivering and supporting executive level initiatives. The ability to think strategically and the ability to manage complex problems and initiatives. Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced, changing environment, and to quickly pivot to address changing priorities. Demonstrated business acumen; strongly connected to and embedded in the businesses they support to ensure a deep understanding of what they do, their importance to the business, their internal and external risks, and opportunities, and their short- and long-term impact. Experience with strategic planning and development processes, frameworks, and tools. Can synthesize and simplify detailed and sometimes ambiguous inputs from a variety of sources. Exceptional communication, negotiation skills, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizations. Strong storytelling abilities through presentations and other graphics; highly creative and able to convey complex situations clearly and succinctly. Strong meeting facilitation and negotiation skills. Excellent organizational planning and process/project management skills. Strong analytical and solution-oriented skills. Self-directed, highly motivated, and objective-driven; high degree of personal accountability and ownership. Proactive approach; drives work with a sense of urgency and responsibility. Understands the matrixed organization and operates well within it. Willingness to travel – 10%. Preferred MS degree with 10 years of experience in a related discipline or a PhD with 7 years of experience in a related discipline. 7 or more years of experience in a management role. Strong understanding and working knowledge of the telecommunications industry, systems, and networks, current and emerging technologies, and standards. Prior experience with management consulting firm(s) focused on strategy development and execution.
