Description

Position Summary
This position works under minimal supervision and is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the strategic as well as the day-to-day operations preconstruction and estimating. Has overall responsibility for maintaining budgets, timelines, and profitability for assigned projects. Assists in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures to achieve established corporate goals and support the corporate mission statement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify and generate sales leads and new opportunities. Utilize Salesforce CRM to track and forecast opportunities.
  • Continue to develop existing client relationships via daily business development activities
  • Responsible for developing new client relationships via daily business development activities
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plan with specific revenue and profit goals.
  • Collaborate with estimating and operations group on project strategy, pricing, proposal etc.
  • Participate in weekly sales and estimating meetings.
  • Assist with managing the internal risk review process in collaboration with all the contributing subject matter experts.
  • Leads the formal proposal and interview process required by clientele.
  • Participates in the overall commercial and contractual negotiations with the client.
  • Develops strategies for market segments and for individual pursuits, including planning and preparation of sales presentations for existing and prospective customers with the purpose of sustaining and growing market share, and executing in-depth selling in all accounts.
  • Lead the negotiations with the client, ensuring the appropriate resources and reviews are in place, to close the transaction and sign a commercially reasonable contract.
  • Facilitate interactions with other departments to ensure good communication and collaboration.
  • Provide support to other business development team members to address challenges and resolve issues that they may be having with their pursuits.
  • Manage the business development goals including goal setting and performance appraisal, budget development and expense management.
  • Keep abreast of potential opportunities, new solutions, industry trends, competitor strengths and weaknesses, and communicate information to the team.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in construction management or related field preferred, high school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 10 years successful experience in preconstruction and estimating. Knowledge of construction technology, scheduling, equipment, and methods required.
  • Proven experience in mentoring and managing others.
  • Business development and heavy client interaction experience.

  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.); and Accubid.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Proven people management, process management, and performance management skills.
  • Current and valid drivers license and clean driving record.

  1. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing, or stretching.
  2. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
  3. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  4. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  5. May require travel.
  6. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  7. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  8. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  9. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  10. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  11. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  12. This position requires travel by vehicle, the ability to work and walk at construction sites during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
  13. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
