Position Summary

The Director, Virtual Design and Offsite Construction oversees the BIM/VDC and Prefabrication process to support project budgets and optimized production via field labor installation. This position also ensures that a Quality Management Program, both Assurance and Control, is maintained and integrated into the Project Life Cycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following accountabilities are primary for this position but do not preclude management from assigning other or related functions if such functions are a logical assignment for the position. Moreover, these accountabilities, as they relate to employees, materials and/or equipment, pertain to the following primary divisions: Prefabrication, BIM/VDC & QA/QC.

  • Oversee the prefabrication process to ensure optimized production in the field. Includes implementing plan for the effective use of materials and resources to achieve cost targets and timelines.
  • Oversee the planning and organization of the prefabrication process and ensure availability of necessary material, equipment, and labor resources required for a project. This includes analyzing and providing solutions to manufacturing challenges or problems.
  • Keeps company executives apprised of progress toward objectives through monthly progress reports and financial reporting
  • Prepare cost estimates and budgets required for a prefabrication proposal, which includes the effective management of inventory control, warehousing, planning/scheduling, and delivery.
  • Oversee the hiring, orienting, and training of technical and production employees to ensure a competent workforce attainment of short- and long-term growth objectives. This includes ensuring operations are in compliance with health and safety standards as well as personnel performance reviews to determine individuals most suited for promotion.
  • Frequently conduct inspections to ensure manufacturing machinery is operational and efficient, which includes facilitate maintenance, repair and/or replacement of damaged equipment
  • Participate in negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure a fair bargain for goods and services.
  • Ensure production complies with established quality control specifications and standards.
  • Entails monitoring and supervising the activities of prefabrication, BIM/VDC & QA/QC personnel to ensure effective performance of job duties. This entails, delegating and assigning work schedules and tasks to managers and/or technical employees.
  • Develop a defined QA/QC Programs to model quarterly performance and implement action plans to ensure cost-effective and high-quality production.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
  • Is an active member of CEC Operational Excellence Committee
  • On-Site Project Support as needed

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years in an industry working directly with BIM/VDC and Prefabrication.
  • Preferred experience in working for both a small and large companies as well as multi-site experience.
  • Must have managed manager, as well as managed a team of at least 10 people.
  • BSME, BSEE, BSET, BSCE or equivalent Degree.
  • Must have demonstrated understanding of construction standards such as NQA, ASTM, ISO requirements in relation to product design and fabrication.
  • Must have experience in Risk Management.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • A proven track record of initiating and implementing projects and initiatives that take cost out of products.
  • Must have excellent technical problem-solving skills and be able to effectively resolve conflict.
  • Experience using CAD-based design tools.
  • Characteristics include being innovative, entrepreneurial, strategic, self-motivated, and fast learner.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and work independently.
  • Periodic travel to locations outside of Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX.

  1. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing, or stretching.
  2. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
  3. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  4. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  5. May require travel.
  6. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  7. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  8. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  9. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  10. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  11. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  12. This position requires travel by vehicle, the ability to work and walk at construction sites during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
  13. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
