Reports to: Executive Director of Cedar Lake Lodge

Location: La Grange, KY

What you’ll do:

The Director of Health Services oversees and coordinates all medical, dental, nursing, and other health services

and programs provided for the individuals.

  • Writing and keeping a current job description on each departmental staff member.
  • Consulting with the Executive Director and Senior Management on what staff is needed, and helping in their recruitment and primarily making their selection, evaluating their service, and when necessary, recommending and executing corrective action, up to and including termination.
  • Placing health services personnel where needed and supervising their delivery of services to the individuals.
  • Coordinating the department services with other care services needed for those we support.
  • Participating in the Placement Committee pre-admission evaluation, program design, and placement of the individual at the time of admission.
  • As appropriate, will develop a written health services plan of care for each individual and to provide for such services based on the attending physician's orders and an assessment of the individual needs. This health plan of care is developed in consultation with the attending physician and other appropriate IDT staff and is part of the total care plan.
  • Ensure adequate physician, general and specialist, resources, contact and services to meet the routine and episodic needs of the individual.
  • Assuring that all medications and treatments are done by competent and licensed health services personnel.
  • Providing for at least quarterly in-services/staff meetings for nursing personnel with appropriate documentation of the programs offered.
  • Provide an orientation program appropriate to the level of staff.
  • Overseeing the Infection Control Program for the control of
    • communicable diseases and infections and the implementation of appropriate
    • protective and preventative measures.
  • Participating as appropriate in the training of other departments and their staff in the areas of:
    • detecting signs of illness
    • basic skills required to meet health needs and support of the individual
    • first aid in the presence of accident or illness.
  • Assisting the pharmacist and reviewing medication recommendations as written per drug reviews.
  • Informing the Executive Director of all significant happenings in the health services areas as it relates to individuals and the health services staff.
  • Contact the families or guardians as they inquire of any significant changes in an individual's health or treatment plan.
  • Teaching and/or consulting sexuality education with the Individuals.
  • Participation as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and Human Rights Committee at Interdisciplinary reviews of individual’s needs, progress and current programs.
  • Participating in Behavior Support Committee and Director's Meetings.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

What sets you apart:

  • Must possess the qualifications of a Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing and must be currently licensed by the state of Kentucky.
  • Practical nursing experience working with individuals with ID/DD is strongly preferred.
  • Five years of nursing experience in a long-term facility preferred.
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license required

What your typical schedule looks like:

Full-time, exempt, 40 hours/week. May include occasional evening/weekend work to meet individual’s needs and respond to facility needs. Must be available by phone when not at the facility or have designated a qualified individual to be on-call for staff consultation.
