Cedar Wellness Center is a Tribally owned clinic that treats a diverse population of patients, including Native and Non-Native people. We have the opportunity to provide whole person care, while managing patient substance use disorders, primary care, infectious disease, and mental health needs. We are currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to support our clinic in Tacoma, WA. This position, reporting to the Clinic Medical Director, is an excellent opportunity for someone excited to make an immediate and lasting impact in a growing company.

Position Overview:

At Cedar Wellness Center, we understand the central role that nurses play in the experience of each patient. Nurses are often the most crucial source of empathy and support for patients during routine treatment and times of crisis. At Cedar Wellness Center, we have built our staff training and our patient treatment model around empathy, connection, compassion, and respect. Works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse/Clinic Medical Director. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the clinic. Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to caring for our patients.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduate of certified LVN/LPNprogram.
  • Active LVN/LPN License in good standing.
  • Must maintain continuing education credits as required by the Board of Licensure and organizational needs.

Applicants must have:

  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) Basic life support
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.
  • Ability to provide health and TB clearance.
  • Licensure in good standing and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS
  • 2 years of recent/previous work experience in substance use disorder setting.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Provides direct and individualized nursing care to patients.
  • Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in the clinic setting.
  • Participates in case conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas among team members.
  • Records information concisely, accurately, and completely.
  • Order medical supplies, maintain a proper inventory, and record use as per regulations.
  • Administer/dispense medications/vaccines in accordance with applicable regulations and policy.
  • Ensure the treatment plans are being followed.
  • Administering and interpreting of the Mantoux test.
  • Proficiency in point-of-care testing.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and medication dosage/interactions.
  • Maintain all medical records including but not limited to individual charts, daily medication charts, dosage records, progress notes, doctor's orders.
  • Notify patients of lab results at the direction of the provider.
  • Submit referrals for specialized care at local health centers (e.g., Planned Parenthood, prenatal clinics, HIV/AIDS testing sites, etc.) and follow-up on patient's attendance and treatment.
  • Assist in organizing transfers of patients to and from the program.
  • Other related responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in training staff in medical matters and patient care; attendance at professional meetings as required; assistance of Physician during physical examinations; maintenance of dispensing room; maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Understand the clinical benefits and limitations of urine screens, toxicology, and other testing procedures.
  • Possess the knowledge and understanding of how to recognize and manage an opioid overdose.
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.
  • Demonstrated customer–first attitude and philosophy.
  • Ability to learn computer and application skills as applicable to role. Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.
  • Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.
  • Ability to listen empathetically.
  • Ability to logically organize details.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal communications in a complex organization.

  • Dispense Medications and Maintain records for controlled substances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person, by telephone. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in an office setting where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must also analyze and evaluate situations and adopt effective courses of action.
