Position Overview:
Carry out chemical testing and analysis on various materials to evaluate their composition, structure, and properties, including metallurgical assessments. Ensure that products adhere to industry and customer standards. Provide technical assistance and conduct both qualitative and quantitative assessments of manufacturing and metallurgical processes. Promote safe chemical and material handling practices and uphold compliance with processing standards. Track inventory levels and coordinate with purchasing to restock supplies as necessary. Success in this role depends on adaptability, collaboration, and a strong focus on quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform chemical tests to determine the composition and concentration of materials.
- Conduct metallurgical testing, including hardness, tensile strength, and microstructure analysis.
- Guide operators on process adjustments to meet specifications; recommend changes to chemical baths or processes as needed.
- Examine manufacturing cross-sections to assess quality and identify improvements.
- Analyze and report findings on material properties and metallurgical results.
- Support quality control efforts by analyzing nonconforming products and providing detailed feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of test results and update the laboratory database.
- Adhere to established protocols with precision and efficiency.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Offer technical support for waste treatment operations.
- Maintain metallurgical testing equipment and ensure calibration standards are met.
- Keep the laboratory clean and organized.
Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in a related field, or relevant work experience, preferably with a focus on metallurgy.
- Strong math skills, including proficiency with basic calculations, fractions, and decimals.
- Familiarity with metallurgical testing equipment and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety guidelines, and procedural instructions.
- Basic computer literacy.
