Position Summary:

The Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Supervisor oversees and manages daily IHC laboratory operations to ensure the highest quality of patient care while meeting regulatory and compliance standards. Supervisory oversight includes assigned staff performance, interactions, and quality of work. Clinical management includes maintaining proper equipment operation, new test implementation, troubleshooting and resolving laboratory issues, correcting errors, and documenting quality control, resulting in efficient, timely and highest quality IHC slide production. Laboratory staff report directly to the IHC lab supervisor, who in turn reports to the Manager of Histology. The IHC lab supervisor may also interact with other clinical staff, including physicians, other laboratory supervisors and managers, the Director of Pathology Technical Services, Pathology department administrative staff, and staff in other departments as appropriate. 
The incumbent will assist with CAP preparation at the central lab and work on standardization with sister laboratories at the divisional locations, including preparing documentation, staff training, and performing mock inspections.

 It is crucial that the IHC Supervisor is knowledgeable about HIPAA, CAP and CLIA regulations, practices and enforces all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures, as this position is exposed to a great number of environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable diseases, fresh human tissue, etc.

Shift: M-F, 9am - 10am start time

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in accordance with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Conduct basic data analysis to monitor lab operation and performance.
  • Manages all aspects of staffing, including but not limited to scheduling, timecards, and performance reviews
  • Mentors, trains, and coaches staff and assists with competency assessments
  • Maintains and/ensures employees' productivity and work quality
  • Troubleshoot and work to resolve any issues that arise within and between departments
  • Assists with departmental quality control and ensures new processes are implemented effectively
  • Conducts periodic departmental CAP evaluation to maintain CAP compliance standards
  • Responsible for frequent, effective communication with department staff, pathologists and company management team regarding issues which affect IHC operations.
  • Assists with all new method and procedure change validations and documentation in the department.
  • Maintains ongoing continuing education to maintain familiarity with the latest trends in methods and testing appropriate to the department functions. Appropriately shares this information with CellNetix leadership committees and staff.
  • Works on special projects as assigned by Manager/Director
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

  • HTL/HT (ASCP); QIHC (ASCP) preferred
  • 5 years of IHC-specific experience, preferably in a high-volume laboratory
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
