Position Summary:
The Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Supervisor oversees and manages daily IHC laboratory operations to ensure the highest quality of patient care while meeting regulatory and compliance standards. Supervisory oversight includes assigned staff performance, interactions, and quality of work. Clinical management includes maintaining proper equipment operation, new test implementation, troubleshooting and resolving laboratory issues, correcting errors, and documenting quality control, resulting in efficient, timely and highest quality IHC slide production. Laboratory staff report directly to the IHC lab supervisor, who in turn reports to the Manager of Histology. The IHC lab supervisor may also interact with other clinical staff, including physicians, other laboratory supervisors and managers, the Director of Pathology Technical Services, Pathology department administrative staff, and staff in other departments as appropriate.
The incumbent will assist with CAP preparation at the central lab and work on standardization with sister laboratories at the divisional locations, including preparing documentation, staff training, and performing mock inspections.
It is crucial that the IHC Supervisor is knowledgeable about HIPAA, CAP and CLIA regulations, practices and enforces all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures, as this position is exposed to a great number of environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable diseases, fresh human tissue, etc.
