JOB TITLE: Job Developer / Retention Specialist - English/Spanish Bilingual

DEPARTMENT: Employment Services
Exemption: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Program Director

SUPERVISES: N/A

The Center for Family Life is a neighborhood-based social service agency offering a comprehensive range of services to children and adults while contributing to community building. The services include family counseling, adult and youth employment services, emergency food, and extensive social, educational, and recreational programming at various local schools.

The Adult Employment Program is an open admissions job readiness program that assists unemployed and underemployed participants with their search for work. The services include job readiness preparation, assessment, and referrals according to participants' needs.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION : To help unemployed new immigrant jobseekers connect to employment and training opportunities and promote job retention once participants are placed on a job.

I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to

  • Visit businesses in the community to establish new relationships with companies that offer employment opportunities with a living wage and a safe work environment
  • Research and establish relationships with training providers offering free training that would help participants obtain credentials that would lead to employment
  • Evaluate personnel needs, determine market trends in particular industries
  • Meet with clients individually to explore skills, interests, and goals to assess their readiness for work, and provide job search guidance
  • Accompany clients to interviews and/or training sites as needed
  • Responsible for helping clients apply for jobs online and assist with resume/cover letter writing and formatting.
  • Conduct an interviewing skills workshop
  • Plan and implement special projects such as organizing job fairs, networking with other job placement services and training programs
  • Continue communication with placed participants and employers to ensure job longevity, assist with second or third placements as needed
  • Collaborate with Supervisor / Employment Counselors to assess and revise placement strategies and discuss clients' needs. Help monitor activities to ensure goals are met
  • Keep records of all employer contacts. Perform routine file maintenance; Keep all client progress notes up to date
  • As program requirements change, assignments could be modified, and new tasks could be added to the job development responsibilities

II. QUALIFICATIONS

  • English/Spanish, required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
  • High level of organizational skills and multi-tasking
  • A strong interest in community development
  • Ability to work with a multicultural client base including new immigrants
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent marketing and follow-up skills

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

  • Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors
  • Effectively communicate with outside agency staff
  • Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization
  • Helping community members with employment search and maintaining confidentiality
  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work primarily in an office setting
  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer
  • May attend various meetings with different personnel and supervisors
  • Some travel throughout Brooklyn, New York is required to meet with clients and businesses
  • Flexible schedule for occasional evening or weekend work
  • Fast-paced, high-energy, and highly collaborative environment

This is a Full-time non-exempt position at 35 hours per week.
Salary : $43,000 to $45,000 per year.
