Behavior Support Specialist Needed

CFPS believes the role of support staff is not only to assist learners but also to promote their independence.
Job Description
We are in need of a Behavior Support Specialist to provide embedded consultation, coaching, and occasional training sessions for Irvington Public School District in Irvington, New Jersey. This position will be embedded in two to three elementary schools in the district and will be providing classroom and individual student behavior support. BCBA supervision may be available for candidates pursuing certification.
Essential Duties
Professional Development:
· Design and deliver occasional professional development to small and/or large groups of school-based instructional staff
· Create opportunities for follow-up support to improve teacher implementation of skills learned in professional development workshops
Client Support:
· Collaborate with a variety of professionals: CST’s, special and general educators, and administrative staff
· Schedules and conducts classroom observations to determine student and class behavior support needs.
· Observe classroom management practices and provide meaningful and timely feedback to teachers
· Plan collaboratively with teachers for the continuation, modification or initial use of specific instructional/classroom management techniques, strategies or approaches
· Guide and assist teachers in establishing effective classroom practices including, but not limited to, the areas of: physical environment, rules/procedures, classroom culture and relationships, academic expectations, classroom management, the development of student self-regulation and student engagement.
· Identifies target behavior(s), develops behavior support strategies, designs data collection and monitors progress as needed for individual students and classwide.
· Researches interventions for best practice in a classroom setting and develops materials for support strategies
· Writes consult reports summarizing observations and data as requested, and completes monthly reports.
· Consult on the development of IEP's as needed
· Stay abreast of national and state standards, and current trends and issues related to assigned content area and best practice.
Technological Development:
· Design, develop, and present PowerPoint® presentations (infrequently)
· Design, develop, and present online webinars (assistance with the technological aspects of the webinars will be provided)
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree in psychology, special education, behavioral health or related field.
· Currently pursuing BCBA certification and has started BCBA coursework (BCaBA will be considered).
· Ability to perform and train others on behavior support plans and methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
· Some professional experience working in a school environment
· PBIS knowledge preferred
· Ability to build cooperation and collaboration
