Center For Specialized Dentistry is Hiring a Dental Assistant Near Salisbury, MD

Title: Dental Assistant

Employee Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Operations

Objectivities: Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist and dental hygienist (as needed). Performance of quality, caring clinical periodontal/implant treatment; to become adept at assigned clinical procedures; to aid the dentist/periodontist. The Dental Assistant gets the patient ready, prepares the treatment room and equipment, and assists the doctor during examination and treatment. Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needed for patients. Maintain equipment and inventor. Adhere to all required CDC/OSHA and health regulations.

Treatment Room Responsibilities:

  • Keep dental units ready, stocked and clean
  • Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations
  • Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations
  • Keep trays/bins, instruments and treatment rooms drawers organized
  • Ensure that practice sterilization procedures document is on display
  • Promptly send out and monitor all dental laboratory cases
  • Implement the preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment
  • Maintain dental practice emergency kits and nitrous and oxygen tanks
  • Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocol

Records Management

  • Securely handle patient records in compliance with state and federal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Accurately input patient information into practice software (Dentrix Ascend/iCat)
  • Track cases and referrals to and from other doctors as needed
  • Assist in the administration of the implant/recall systems
  • Complete monthly/weekly/quarterly infection control testing/record keeping

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory and order dental supplies as needed
  • Ensure that treatment rooms are stocked at all times

Office Participation

  • Help in other areas of the dental practice when necessary (i.e., answer phones, unpacking supplies, assist patients with patient forms, other operational tasks)
  • Be an active participant in team meetings
  • Promote team concept by interacting with others in the practice

Interpersonal

  • Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff and community
  • Effective verbal skills to communicate with patients and staff

Education, Training:

  • High-school diploma
  • Graduate of accredited dental assisting program or dental assisting experience preferred (1-2 years)
  • Coursework in dental instruments and procedures
  • Compliance with state dental practice requirements (e.g., x-ray requirements, OSHA training)
  • Computer skills
  • Commitment to CE for career development

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Annual continuing education courses will be required on an as-needed basis in person or online using SPEAR Education.

Competencies: Health care, vision, short-term disability. Lab fees must be paid by employee. positive attitude, customer oriented, discrete in handling confidential matters, solve problems. Additional Benefits:

Physical Requirements: require sitting most of the day. Some walking around the office as needed. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is needed. Vision abilities include close vision proximity of computers, printers, other technology. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, type and see. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Days/Hours/Location:

  • Days: Monday – Friday
  • Hours: 7:00 – 4:00 PM (vary)
  • Lunch: 30 minutes
  • Location(s): This position may require traveling between our Easton/Salisbury offices
  • The hours may be adjusted as needed.
  • From time-to-time additional work hours will be required for continuing education and special projects.
  • Overtime hours must be pre-approved/or scheduled

Compensation: $18.00 – 25.00 an hour
