Job Description
Job Overview: The Lead Early Literacy Consultant at CSAS is a key role focused on leading the development and implementation of professional learning and coaching support designed around the science of reading that directly impacts teacher effectiveness in literacy instruction and student learning outcomes in grades K-3. This position is crucial for advancing the company’s vision of unlocking every child's potential to achieve literacy by third grade through structured, research-backed instructional strategies. 
Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance as a Subject Matter Expert in the science of reading in grades K-3 for NYC DOE Superintendents, Principals, and Instructional/Literacy Coaches, and other key external and internal literacy stakeholders.
  • Design high-quality professional learning and coaching program, tailored using the NYC approved curriculum resources.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a tailored, comprehensive professional learning and coaching support plan aligned to the NYC READS Initiative and district literacy priorities resulting in direct impact on teacher effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
  • Model effective coaching and conferencing techniques for literacy coaches.
  • Supervise literacy coach/consultant teams and other project related positions as assigned. 
  • Provides direct reports with specific work plans derived from the overarching professional learning strategy in alignment to the organization’s goals. 
  • Design and deliver an effective onboarding process and in-service training for literacy coaches.
  • Develop and provide ongoing literacy-based professional learning opportunities for CSAS consultants, CSAS Leadership, NYC DOE Superintendents, Principals, and Instructional/Literacy Coaches, and other key literacy stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the assessment, evaluation, and measurement of the impact of all literacy-based professional learning programs 
  • Use reading assessment data to inform decisions about human capital management, professional learning priorities, and recommendations for school-wide and system-wide instructional improvement.
  • Developing data reports to communicate results.
  • Continually update literacy professional learning programs based on the latest educational trends research. 
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, including CSAS team members, educational leaders, and industry experts.
  • Build capacity of school instructional leaders to effectively lead literacy initiatives.
Candidate Qualifications
Education
  • A master’s degree or higher in literacy, curriculum and instruction, early childhood education, education administration, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of the science of reading.
  • Training in Reading First, LETRS, Orton Gillingham, Wilson Methodology, or other structured approaches to literacy instruction is required; certification is preferred.
Experience in Reading Instruction (K-3)
  • At least 10 years of successful teaching and/or administration experience in elementary education using a structured literacy approach.
  • Three or more years of experience in leading and facilitating literacy-specific initiatives for grades K-3 at the district, state, or national level
  • In-depth knowledge of curriculum programs in evidence-based reading instruction and pedagogical approaches that are interactive, engaging, and impact student achievement.
  • Proven track record of helping students achieve success, with an emphasis on Title 1, English Language Learners, and Students with Disabilities in grades K-3 using evidence-based reading programs and practices.
  • Development and delivery of professional learning sessions specifically focused on the reading instruction
  • Supporting students with diverse learning needs, specifically students with disabilities and students who are acquiring English or Multilingual learners, ensuring they achieve success 
Position Type
This is a per diem position, prorated based on number of days worked. Travel across the boroughs of New York City required.
