Center for Veterans Issues, LTD. is Hiring an Employment Specialist Near Milwaukee, WI

Job PurposeUnder the direction of the Program Manager, the Veteran Employment Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive case management and job readiness services to unemployed veterans enrolled in the program. These case management and job readiness services are intended to expedite the reintegration of homeless and incarcerated veterans into the labor force. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Services, or Career Counseling with two years of experience in performing the above duties and responsibilities is preferred
  • Associates degree in Social Work, Social Services, or Career Counseling with three years of experience in performing the above duties and responsibilities is required
  • Experience delivering services to SUD, COD, or homeless populations with multiple needs or barriers is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, and database programs is preferred
  • Experience working with Veterans is preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessment interviews with homeless veteran participants to include assessing how military training and experience can translate into civilian employment experience
  • Evaluate participant’s skill sets, barriers to employment and job preparedness needs.
  • Provide career guidance to assist veterans in developing short and long-term career goals
  • In partnership with a veteran - prepare Individual Employment Plan (IEP) based on the veteran’s assessment results, skill sets, and career goals
  • Identify occupation-specific credentialing requirements and assist veterans in obtaining required credentials and enrolling in occupational skills training programs
  • Develop and conduct individual and group training and counseling sessions/workshops for veterans on resume writing, soft skills training, and job preparedness training
  • Collaborate with; local Disabled Veteran’s Opportunities Programs (DVOP), Local Veteran Employment Representatives (LVERs), VA staff, and other local CBO staff to coordinate service delivery and placement services
  • Collaborate with the ETE Program Manager to assist with employment placement through on-the-job training (OJT), apprenticeship training programs, and direct hire placements
  • Refer veterans to CVI Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), local veteran resources and CBOs, and benefit services on an as-needed basis
  • Collaborate with CVI SSVF case management staff regarding treatment and housing plans that will support the Individual Employment Plan (IEP.)
  • Provide job coaching and retention /follow-up services in accordance with DOL regulations and CVI procedures; maintain individual employment data during the established time frame
  • Enter service case notes and objective outcome data into the appropriate client database system; maintain case files to ensure files have all required documents in accordance with CVI and DOL regulations
  • Prepare reports and attend meetings
  • Other duties as requested or assigned
