The Center for Women and Families – Director of Emergency Shelter

The Director of Emergency Shelter will help move toward our vision of thriving survivors in safe communities.
The Center for Women and Families provides free services to anyone who has experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.
The Director of Emergency Shelter is responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing The Center's Emergency Shelter operations and programs, including Food Services. This role works closely with Development, Human Resources, Facilities, and Finance to ensure strong operational oversight, supervision, and support of shelter programs and staff. The Director will contribute to agency-wide strategic initiatives and ensure the delivery of high-quality shelter services.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for emergency shelter operations, ensuring high-quality crisis intervention, case management, and shelter services for adults, children, and families in transition.
- Support emergency shelter goals and outcomes, contributing to agency-wide planning and performance initiatives.
- Monitor shelter finances, ensuring all financial decisions align with approved budgets.
- Collaborate with staff on grant management, ensuring accurate and timely data tracking to support Finance and Development teams.
- Ensure quality assurance for emergency shelter operations, reviewing residential data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Develop and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and funding requirements.
- Mediate conflicts, facilitate resolution processes, and address grievances as needed.
- Oversee food services for emergency shelter residents, supporting the Supervisor of Food Services in budget management, staff training, and maintaining a safe and healthy dining environment.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners and local service providers to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree.
- A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet CWF automobile insurance requirements.
- Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
- Strong ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
