CDC is actively recruiting for an exceptional candidate for the position of Director, Office of Science Dissemination (OSD), Immediate Office of the Director (IOD), Office of Science (OS), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Office of Science (OS) provides scientific vision and leadership in science quality, innovation, research, ethics, and science administration. It ensures continuity and commitment to long-term scientific investments to ensure the achievement of CDC's overarching health protection goals, both nationally and globally. The office upholds scientific ideas, establishes an environment thriving with scientific excellence, innovation, integrity, learning, and discovery, and upholds the timely dissemination and translation into practice of scientific information, innovations, and technology.

Specialized experience is that which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, leading, directing, and managing a large public health program, such as scientific, public health, academic, non-governmental or other organization, while providing technical assistance to domestic and international partners on matters relating to the improvement of their public health activities.

As the Director of OSD, the incumbent:

  • Serves as a senior scientific advisor to the OS Director on all matters involving the strategic direction, scientific content, management and dissemination of scientific publications, and the analysis of the impact of scientific reports.
  • Lead and advise in the planning, conducting, and implementation of communication science research for the publication and rapid dissemination of public health-related science and information, as well as promote and ensure sound scientific practices including analytical, statistical, and evaluation methods are applied in scientific articles and reports.
  • Utilizing findings from research and studies to establish criteria and scientific standards for publications and promote the innovative and rapid dissemination of scientific content.
  • Serves as a member of the Office’s senior leadership team and advises on the scientific direction, implementation, and evaluation of the scientific priorities, scientific integrity, quality assurance, and the rapid dissemination of scientific information. As EIC for MMWR and Executive Director of Vital Signs, the incumbent provides the scientific and editorial vision and assures the highest levels of scientific rigor and quality of content for reports.
