Centra Health Careers is Hiring a RN EDUCATOR DIABETES CERTIFIED-Childbirth/Family Education (FT/Days) Near Lynchburg, VA

Overview

The Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) practices according to professional nursing standards. The practice of the professional nurse reflects the American Nurses Association's Code for Nurses and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia. Credentialed diabetes educators meet the academic professional and experiential requirements established by the certification board. Competency in diabetes education or management is validated by means of written examination as set forth by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE).

Responsibilities

Applies principles of program and/or business management to create a climate that supports successful self-management of diabetes.
Applies principles of teaching and learning and/or behavior change to facilitate self-management skills of individuals with diabetes.
Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
Demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills to provide education appropriate to the age of the population served.
Displays and promotes a positive public relations approach to staff physicians patient's family and public.
Identifies and resolves unusual customer service issues.
Incorporates health education as an integral part of the nursing practice in meeting patient needs.
Maintains absenteeism at % or less depending upon individual circumstances.
Maintains awareness and responsiveness to our customer's needs.
Maintains excellent quality nursing practice based on current nursing research and or current Standard of Care.
Maintains up to date knowledge of the Scope aof Practice Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for Diabetes Educators as developed by the AADE.
Meets professional development educational requirements: contact hours of continuing education per year or contact hours plus academic credits.
Demonstrates familiarity with pathophysiology epidemiology and clinical guidelines consistent with diabetes care provider level.
Promotes cohesiveness in the working environment.
Provides an example of current unit specific evidence-based practice.
Provides diabetes support and care in a culturally-competent manner across the lifespan.
Provides knowledge and skill training that help individuals identify barriers and to facilitate problem-solving and coping skills to achieve effective self-care behavior and behavior change in accordance with the AADE Self Care Behaviors.

Qualifications

Required Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Preferred Education: BSN or MSN
Required Experience: At least three years as a Registered Nurse
Required Certification & Licensures: Hold a current, active license as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a Registered Nurse. A credentialed diabetes educator who has successfully met the academic, professional, and experiential requirements as set forth by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators and credentialed as a Certified Diabetes Educator.
