Hours of Work: 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

PURPOSE
The Xaad Kíl Immersion Specialist is responsible for assisting the Language Immersion Manager and Teachers in the operation of the Xaad Kíl Immersion Nest, including but not limited to resource development, lesson planning, classroom management, and working directly with fluent speakers and Elders.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Xaad Kíl Immersion Manager
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: N/A
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Research and gather language for Xaad Kíl language resource development
Assist and support staff in curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, and hosting family events
Prepare and create materials for lesson plans
Develop Xaad Kíl early readers
Support with activities, parent and community activities, and cultural events
Provide transportation for students and families for field trips and events
Work directly with fluent speakers and Elders
Maintain partnerships with families, local and regional tribes, and community stakeholders
Provide administrative support as needed for staff and classroom
Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge, principles, and theories in the field or program and ability to apply in situations of moderate complexity
Ability to analyze and interpret information from multiple sources, including but not limited to statutes, program regulations, and financial reports
Familiarity with Southeast Alaska Tribes and languages
Enthusiasm for broad-based cultural program
Desire to support immersion teachers and youth ages 3-6
Desire to build culturally responsive educational systems that celebrate Indigenous languages and traditional ways of knowing
Excellent verbal, written, and inter-personal communication skills Desire to become fluent and proficient in speaking the Xaad Kíl language
Excellent computer skills including but not limited to MS Office and databases
Ability to work in fast-paced environment with little supervision
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
High school diploma or equivalent
Child Development Associate Certificate, or willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate Certificate
1 year experience working in a cultural education setting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
Associates Degree or Child Development Associate Certificate
1 year experience working in a cultural setting or language immersion school
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
