Description

Part-Time Position - 40 hours per pay period (20 hours per week)

Minimum Starting Hourly Rate: $18.00/hr

Maximum Starting Hourly Rate - Dependent on Qualifications

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Works under the supervision of the Community Engagement and Employment Specialist. Supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain employment skills through classroom instruction and a community-based apprenticeship model. The VAP Job Coach will support clients in the Vocational Apprenticeship program through providing on-site job skills training and transportation to and from classroom instruction and apprenticeship job sites. Other responsibilities include recruiting both potential apprentices and host employers to provide apprenticeship opportunities. The VAP job coach will be responsible for timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record and completing required VAP program documents, to include time cards and applicable VAP data collection tools and assessments. The goal of the apprenticeship program is to allow an individual to graduate from the program with a skillset to be able to seek competitive employment

This is a grant funded position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Consumer Services

  • Assists in recruiting potential apprentices through informational meetings with service coordinators, caregivers, and community stakeholders. Assists in reviewing applications and conducts interviews to determine an individual’s readiness to participate in the program.
  • Reinforces the prescribed classroom curriculum aimed at increasing employment readiness skills during on-site job coaching.
  • Assists with recruiting employers in the community to serve as host sites for the apprenticeship program.
  • Follows Person-Centered Thinking and Employment First principles.
  • Actively participates in individualized training and/or group training to assist clients in obtaining and/or maintaining community employment.
  • Assists clients with completing job applications, preparing for, and attending interviews.
  • Assists leadership in the development of training opportunities for service coordinators, provider services, and clients and families regarding Employment Services.

Collaboration and Relationship Building

  • Develops relationships with host sites for apprenticeship work.
  • Develops relationships with HHSC Program Staff, Texas Workforce Commission and other agencies for purposes of partnering or identifying resources.
  • Maintains positive relationships with apprentices, their support systems, and apprenticeship host sites.
  • Represents IDD Employment Services-Vocational Apprenticeship Program in the community.
  • Works closely with other team members regarding the program.

Data Completion

  • Completes progress notes in the Electronic Health Record according to center timelines.
  • Completes VAP data collection in a timely manner, to include time cards and initial and ongoing assessments.
  • Works with the IDD Data Manager monthly regarding encounter data.

General

  • Demonstrates high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity. Regular attendance, dependability, and promptness are required for the 8-5 work day or agreed upon hours 100% of the time, to ensure consistency and completeness of program’s processes.
  • Must stay compliant with all required training.
  • Professional Development - Successfully complete training required to maintain skill competency and cross training to ensure consistency across program procedures. Complete continuing education as required by professional standards and the Center.
  • Frequent daily driving within the catchment area is required.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Education/Licensing/Certification

  • Preferred: 2 years’ experience with the IDD population, particularly as it relates to IDD Employment Services.
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge/experience in working within an Electronic Health Record.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Central Counties Services incorporates principles of trauma-informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity, in all areas of service delivery.
  • Ability to interact in a professional and customer-oriented manner with all stakeholders including consumers, parents, the public and other staff.
  • Ability to carry out program strategies as directed.
  • Ability to liaison effectively with team regarding the status of a specific case.
  • Ability to respond calmly and quickly to crisis situations and maladaptive behavior.
  • Ability to see, hear and talk effectively within job requirements.
  • Ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk and drive for extended periods.
  • Ability to administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to conduct prevention and management of aggressive behavior (PMAB).
  • Ability to effectively handle potentially aggressive behavior in a positive manner.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize computer programs, e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel.

Relationship Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work behavior must be compatible with Center value statement and Policies and Procedures Manual contributing to an environment of problem solving, building trust, conflict resolution, and customer service.
  • Ability to perform tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work and implement directives without constant supervision.
  • Ability to present a professional appearance and conduct when representing the Center.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and productively with supervisor, individuals, co-workers, and groups of persons at all levels of activity, contributing to a strong spirit of teamwork.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies and the general public using tact, courtesy and good judgment.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel the five county service area.
  • Regular attendance and reliability is critical to business operations.
